    D&D 5E (2014) Hex Shenanigans

well I have two pure warlock ideas that I think would be fun. If I ever end up in one of your games, I'll use one of them, if only to stave off the despair for someone else.

But is it really contrary to the rules? First off, there's the Massive Damage rules, both the PHB version (if the damage you take takes you down to negative your hit point maximum, your dead, no saving through) and the DMG' addition (taking a certain amount of high damage does something...

Have you heard of the trope Like Reality Unless Noted? I feel like a lack of understanding of that idea might be happening here.

    D&D 5E (2014) Hex Shenanigans

Well here we are then, we're at that old bugaboo known as Personal Opinion and Interpretation. Because, in my opinion, if someone in well, any story, shot themselves in the head and came out with only minor injuries, I'd be upset. Although, there might be something else where I feel that...

An arbitrary ruling like "pointing a gun at your head and pulling the trigger kills you"... I think you and I have differing opinions of arbitrary. Which is fine.

I'm not saying that the DM is doing it. I'm saying that the Players are paranoid that the DM is going to do it.

D&D 5E (2014) Would you let your player choose their magic items they get?

To pick what shows up in hordes? Not really. I might see the kind of things they want and influence to that idea. Say for example there's a wizard in the party, I'm gonna throw them some spell scrolls they can copy into their books. If a player directly asks me for an item they want though, I'm...

    D&D 5E (2014) Hex Shenanigans

Here's what I think is going on, and I'm not trying to be disparaging. We can all agree that the DM is a player in a session of D&D, correct? However, they aren't a Player (someone who plays a character in the game). This means that the DM is, in fact, on another team in the game that is D&D...

I think we're about to enter a realm of causality here, because I'd say the people paying the refs off are the people cheating.

    D&D 5E (2014) What’s So Great About Medieval Europe?

yep, game comes first, always. If it doesn't, then you get a boring game, and a boring game is a failed game.

The way I'd do it is just introduce another type of longsword that is finesse. Just say it has a shorter grip or something so you can't two hand it and I think balance concerns are addressed.

What you see as "potential rule inconsistency" I see as "wanted to know how to exploit the system."

refs can't cheat. If you have a problem with the rules, you need to talk with the person who made Rule 0.

oh well then rip. still though, they could be lying or misdirecting like for Cabin in the Woods.

That's also true. Really this is just me asking for what I think would fit a D&D movie the most, if they don't do it this way, I'll be sad, but I'll take whatever they give as long as it's an entertaining product and I have no reason to doubt that to be the case at this point in time.

D&D Movie/TV D&D Movie Moves Forward With Deal With Former Marvel Exec Jeremy Latcham

I've seen some silly internet things that have done the idea of it essentially being a bunch of people playing a D&D game (it's what gave me the idea in the first place) and they do it pretty well. If some dorks on the internet could make a compelling story doing that kind of thing, then I...

They could go both meta and have the running storyline. It's not a mutually exclusive thing, and general audiences aren't that dumb

That's the kinda thing I'm hoping for. Like it seems like a fairly normal fantasy movie (what a weird phrase) but early on it cuts out or something and we hear the players having a rules argument or something. Basically pull a Princess Bride with it.
