D&D General Worlds of Design: Is Fighting Evil Passé?

You could always make them just another humanoid though, with their own culture and stuff (I always like making them some flavor of norse personally), though you do lose out on the "advantage" I guess of having the always chaotic evil race that the players can face.

D&D General Worlds of Design: Is Fighting Evil Passé?

A new setting for D&D, essentially. It's a thought experiment, although it seems you honestly cannot grasp the fact that there are different moralities from your own and potentially different worlds and/or cultures from your own.

D&D General Worlds of Design: Is Fighting Evil Passé?

No, he just has his own opinion on the idea of "redeeming" orcs (which he views the "redeeming" as "annihilating their culture and making them adopt our more 'civilized' ways") much the same way people has seen those same effort to First Nations people in Canada or Aboriginal Australians...

D&D General Worlds of Design: Is Fighting Evil Passé?

Why should they if the live in that world? In that world, said sacrifice is a good act, because it's trading one life for hundreds of millions. Is that not an acceptable trade? Or do you just not understand that moralities different from your can exist in the world?

D&D General Worlds of Design: Is Fighting Evil Passé?

Correct. That doesn't change the inherent humanness in them though, doesn't it?

D&D General Worlds of Design: Is Fighting Evil Passé?

So it's evil to keep yourself and everyone else alive in that world? What crimes are those people committing besides living it that world?

D&D General Worlds of Design: Is Fighting Evil Passé?

I mean, it's human nature to be selfish jackwagons, yet we sill manage to work together for good causes, even if the primary motivation is self-advancement.

D&D General Worlds of Design: Is Fighting Evil Passé?

But what if that is absolutely necessary? Due to some futzery with the world or whatever, the gods need the deaths of humans in order for the world to continue? Like, for crops to grow, you need to skin someone and wear their skin for a week, or for rain to fail you need to throw screaming...

Isn't that just colonialism in a different form though? And what if they're doing what you consider evil to say, keep the world working, like The Aztecs?

D&D General Worlds of Design: Is Fighting Evil Passé?

Understandable, just remember that other people may disagree or dislike your interpretation, which is perfectly valid, just as much as yours is.

Unearthed Arcana Why UA Psionics are never going to work in 5e.

ya got me. It's like a scale sort of thing though really. You got sci-fi on one end, and fantasy on the other. Like how (in my theory, anyway) comedy and horror and on the same sort of scare, though mainly to a lesser extent. Basically, what I am ultimately try to say, is that trying to figure...

Unearthed Arcana Why UA Psionics are never going to work in 5e.

It's literally a fantasy story transplanted into a sci-fi setting. A farm boy gets help from an old wizard to defeat a dark lord.

Unearthed Arcana Why UA Psionics are never going to work in 5e.

Well that, and often times, they only difference between them is "because Magic!" or "because Science!". And sure, you can go deeper into them, but at the most basic and simple level, that's the primary difference. And I would understand any other POV's on the subject, and those are perfectly...

Well you can think of it that way, if you want to be grumpy. I prefer to think of it as "Starting an interesting conversation that gets people to think about things they enjoy."

Unearthed Arcana Why UA Psionics are never going to work in 5e.

I succeeded beyond my wildest dreams with that "aren't science fiction and fantasy basically the same thing" I must admit.
