    E-Tools: Should I or Shouldn't I?

Just so no one is confused, DM's Familiar is not a character generator. It's a combat manager, reference library and campaign organizer. It's meant to be used by DMs, not players, and at the gaming table during the game. If you were including DM's Familiar in the "three fan-created programs...

    Alternate Dieing Rules

How about this as a house rule for dieing: Rather than lose a level, a character that is died and brought back is treated as a having a temporary level drain: -1 to all skill, ability, saving throws, effective level (for spell casters, i.e. determining how many dice in your fireball). The...

    Campaign Suite Player's Edition

I think Chris missed what you were asking, Davin. I'll take a stab at it. CampaignSuite has "Gear" and "Magic Item" tables. You could restrict those items to what you wanted available to the players to get what you want. There's no way to do a "Store A has X, Y, Z; While store B has C, D, E"...

    E-Tools: Should I or Shouldn't I?

If you want a character generator, you should check out Campaign Suite first. They have a free demo you can test drive to make sure it will do what you want. If money is tight, you can brave PCGen. If you're really computer-literate, don't mind buggy software, can install updates created by...

    Battlemap software?

Why not a battle map and tokens? Tokens are free in Dungeon magazine and you can buy them from Fiery Dragon among others. My token folder must have near a 1000 tokens in it already. And cutting out tokens is not as hard on my old arthritic fingers.

    Announcement from Anthony Valterra

Not likely. Mynex, straighten me out if I get this wrong: PCGen is released as Open Source. It's free. You can't charge anything for PCGen. And since it is Open Source you can't use any part of it in something you charge for. So they can't say the current version is free but future versions...

    Make a +1 Sword a +2?

Since you guys have high-jacked my thread :) (No real complaints since my question got answered): Monte Cook's The Nexus has rules for leveling magic items by putting XP into them, special magic-item-only type feats (movement, sentience, suggesstion against the owner), a leveling table giving...

Can you counter a Silent + Still Spell?

I don't play with any of the splat books so I can't comment on them. Page 74 seems pretty clear: "You *must* see or hear the spell..." So where are the rules for alternate DCs if you can't see or hear the spell? I don't see any in the Core books. Spellcraft also says that learning a spell...

Can you counter a Silent + Still Spell?

Can I change my answer? Page 74 says you have to see or hear the spell being cast. So if it's silent and still, you can't see it or hear and therefore cannot ID it as it is being cast.

    Make a +1 Sword a +2?

If I have a magic sword +1, can I take it down to the local magic-crafters-r-us and have them turn it into a +2 sword? I was thinking that no, once an item has been made a magic item it can't be changed. You have to sell the +1 sword and buy yourself a new +2 sword. My players, of course...

    Palm RPG Programs and Referances

I think so. Wizards' hasn't said anything about it and they are the only opinion that matters. It's been out for a little more than a month. There are plenty of legal/illegal debates on the boards here by the self-proclaimed experts so I'm sure you can find someone for either side if you look...

    What counters silence

Ventriloquism says "you can make your voice *seem* to issue from someplace else". So the sound is actually coming from you it just *seems* to be coming from somewhere else. So I'd say no, it wouldn't work if you are silenced.

    Initiative 0.8.1 released

You two seem to be implying that other combat manager programs don't allow the players or the DM to roll their own dice. That's certainly not true in DM's Familiar. Is that what you mean?

    PC's Familiar for the Palm

There's no demo version at this time. There should be, but there's not. All of that can be entered and the DC is calculated for you. I don't calculate range or duration. I'll put it on my to-do list though. It's written in NSBasic

    Campaign suite

Plenty of discussion of it over here: http://enworld.cyberstreet.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27824 Personally, I like it for character creation. Especially if you have custom races or classes in your game. Very easy to make the custom changes.

    Hidden Fortress?

Anybody have any dealings with the UK distributor Hidden Fortress? I sent Ed some product for GenCon UK a while back, it arrived late, and I've heard nothing from them since after several emails.
