OGC and what a RPG should be?

This is a PUBLIC message board. If you don't want reponses to what you post, you can (A) Stop Posting or (B) Move it somplace PRIVATE. If that someone is a spoiled 8-year-old, then yes. If the someone in question is a mature adult, then no, the legal and moral explanations should hold more...

OGC and what a RPG should be?

I agree. I bought the splat books. I demand Wizards provide me with the following at no cost: * A second paper copy in case I lose the first one * A hardcover edition to make it more durable * A softcover one cuz I don't like carrying the hardcover one * An extra copy that I can keep in the...

    PCGen export to stat block?

Yes, there is a stat block that comes with PC Gen. It's not a standard stat block, but as long as you're not picky, it's there. If you're picky about your stat blocks, I have an XSL sheet on my website that creates a PC Gen character in standard stat block form. It's in the download section.

    Table Smith

I assume you mean, TablesmithSmith. Tablemaster is an older program that, I think, is no longer around. DM's Familiar now works with Tablesmith by Bruce Gelke. DM's Familiar can now create Tablesmith tables for anything in it's Reference Library: Spells, Feats, Skills, Monsters, etc. DMF comes...

    Campaign Reference Database...

Why not use the Rules database in DM's Familiar? That's just a simple place where you can store any text you like. The Rules database now has a "Category" so you can group stuff together and the Advanced Search will let you search on those categories.

DM Familiair vs. Campaign Suite vs. others...

I remeber at least 2 people at GenCon buying DM's Familiar from me and then saying "and now have I to go buy a laptop". Gamers have done stranger things I'm sure.

Traditional RPG is dying - Open Dome Gaming is the way forward!

Unless the "telepresence" can deliver the heady aroma of my players' farts, a remote game will never be better than in person. Oh wait, that's an argument against social gaming.

Looking for a game managing program.

There's DM's Familiar, Campaign Suite, Roleplaying Master, DMGenie, and some others. There's been some comparisons made about these programs in this thread: http://enworld.cyberstreet.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27824 Check 'em out, compare, and see which one you like best.

OGC and what a RPG should be?

. While I agree that the timing of the WOTC compaint was, er....convenient, you're being a little unfair to WotC. By all accounts, WotC bent over backwards helping PCGen get their software legal. They did not have to do that. And it's WotC who gave us the licenses so that software like DM's...

    A standard RPG gaming API

More random thoughts on things that have been said: Central Server Web Site: That idea sounds like you'd have to have an on-line connection to use any of these tools. That would be a very bad requirement in my mind. TCP/IP Vs. File Sharing: I'm not an expert in the field by any means, but I...

    A standard RPG gaming API

No, I import stat blocks. This is the whole idea of interoperability: If I import your PCG files, then I can't import from anything else. Or I have to write different imports to deal with everyone else's file formats. Yucky. If there was an XML standard for PCs, I would have written an import...

    A standard RPG gaming API

I think that's an excellent idea (not sure about that TCP part of the spec though, sounds awfully complicated for a user to setup) and something I've been hoping for as well. Just some random thoughts in no particular order: 1) I've already done something along these lines for DM's Familiar...

    Incorporeal Vs. Bracers of Armor

I Eat Crow From the D&D FAQ (go figure, they answered it): I'm wrong. Caliban is right. I hate that.

Doors: Too hard to break, too easy to chop

The Door Break DCs are too high. It doesn't matter what real-life fireman do, this is fantasy gaming. In fantasy gaming the big strong hero needs to break down a door on occasion to rescue the princess.

    Incorporeal Vs. Bracers of Armor

You've come up with an interesting 3rd option: It really is a touch attack but the rules of Incorporeal/Force supercede the rules of touch attacks. That's an interesting theory. Where's the rule to support it? Theory #2 (for those of you playing at home): "Incorporeal touch" doesn't really...

    Incorporeal Vs. Bracers of Armor

Or how about this, let's take the CON argument to my PRO: "Incorporeal touch" doesn't really mean touch. It's a slam attack. Now, I want to make a creature that really does have a touch attack. How would I write that up? "Incorporeal Touch +3 (Really, a touch attack, I mean it)"? Sorry...

    Incorporeal Vs. Bracers of Armor

So the Rust Monster ("Antenna Touch") and Magmin ("Burning Touch") are not really touch attacks? They have different names. I'm saying that they are a special type of physical attack with specific, spelled out rules. That doesn't seem to be the crux of it though. It seems the crux is "did...
