What didn't people like about Gygax's Greyhawk?

I wasn't talking about later books, only about the initial boxed set's utter lack of: 1> borders on the map for the countries. 2> anything more than a few paragraphs (at best) about each country. 3> the utter blandness of the setting in general. And that was what I was trying to say. So true...

What didn't people like about Gygax's Greyhawk?

The thing that always bugged me about Greyhawk was the one thing that I always hear the most praise about it for - the fact that it was basically just a map with an overview of the various nations. I never understood (and still don't) why people liked that. If I wanted to do all the work myself...

    Intelligent Items as PCs

Had a player back in 2e play his girlfriend's intelligent (and evil) sword. He was always trying to make her do nasty things. :P I haven't seen anyone try it in 3e, though I would recommend the Book of Eldritch Might for this. Monte's stuff is good.

    How necessary is Gargantuan/Colossal sizing?

WOW!!!!! Just WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is so ugly that it is just cool. I have got to make (and use) one of those. :D

Just got The Primal Order for $10 at a game store, wow! And a potential gamerecruit!

Primal Order was (is) a great system that just kinda fell by the wayside when WotC bought TSR. I wish they had continued with it. :( Have fun with it. There are two or three other books in the set, though I have never been able to find a copy of the last one (Knights, I think).

Any feats that allow you to gain a skill as a class skill?

Actually, that feat is a sidebar in the book and works just fine in a normal game. I see nothing in the book that indicates that it is only for that variant skill system.

    Maximum Hit Points

I haven't tried max hps per level but, I am using a 3/4 hp per level model and it works great. Keeps the players from rolling up a 5th level cleric with less hp than the 5th level wizard (yes, it happened. Can you say dead cleric?).

    Complete Scoundrel Crossbow Bayonet Alternatives

It would be a bracket attached under the crossbow, but, yes I would allow it in my game if one of my players thought of it. Why not? :D

The Real problem with 3e D&D

Action points in Unearthed Arcana allow this. As my players are beginning to figure out. :D

How Do You Scan These Threads?

I do this in General, Rules, and House Rules.

Silence - does it give a saving throw...

Ok, here is a puzzle for you. Cast Silence on a tanglefoot bag, then throw it at the 17th level caster. Mage Hand can't deal with that and the caster will have a hard time casting spells. Thankfully my players haven't tripped to some of these tricks. :D

    Eliminating charisma

<Geezes up> Well, we didn't have the internet infecting our gaming discussions either. :p >Geezes down< :D :D :D I haven't seen a lot of "dump stating" in 3e, but I haven't seen most of the complaints about 3e that I hear about here on ENWorld. In my XP, point buy kills the "dump stat" problem...

    Eliminating charisma

I remember the concept of the "dump stat" (if not the term) from 1e/2e. It was where you "dumped" your low roll. 4d6, drop the lowest, assign as desired. That was the standard character roll up system in 2e (if I remember correctly) and an option in 1e. That said, I agree with the rest of your...

What Do You Do For: GUNPOWDER

Use the "smokepowder" fix. Gunpowder doesn't work, only smokepowder does and charge an arm and a leg for it. I haven't had any problems so far with allowing smokepowder in my games, but I don't have any players that try to break the system in the ways that Celebrim describes. I am really lucky. :D

    Prestige Class: Number of levels

True Necromancer has 14 levels. I read somewhere that the 10 level classes were supposed to represent an in depth specialization while the 5 level classes are merely an enhancement to the existing class.

My game...and the corner I painted myself into

Do you have Weapons of Legacy? They have a legacy write up of the holy avenger in the back of that book. Holy avengers do not have to be bastard swords. A better suggestion from that book might be the legacy swords (type of sword can be switched without problem) Durindana (the saintly) or...

    Size of character parties

Normally, 5 - 8 players with 1 character each and maybe 1 or 2 henchmen/cohorts. Largest ever, 12 players with 16 characters between them. What a headache, but what fun those days were. :D Current campaign, Mongoose's Drow War campaign with 8 players with 1 character each. PS: I don't count...

    Greyhawk: Looking for Planar Chess

Dragon Chess has three boards, one is the sky, one is the ground, the last is underground. Does that sound like what you are looking for?

    Factotum from Dungeonscape

Looks like an interesting class. I might jack up their number of inspiration points or give them a recharge method, though. Depends on the game world. For Eberron, Indiana Jones. Ravenloft, Dr. Van Richten.

    Bree Yark!

I remember (barely) a John Wayne movie set in a carnival where it is used. That was were I learned what the term was for.
