I would expect a level of consistency / predictability rather than the DM just doing whatever random thing he thinks of in the moment. I as a player also have an idea of what I consider a likely / reasonable / possible outcome, if what DM decides frequently is between highly improbable and next...

I am not saying they cannot, to me that ability in and of itself is not a problem however, abuse is the problem. If the game tries to prevent that possibility by basically making anything possible if the character just rolls well enough, then I consider that at least as much of a problem...

one stubborn character does not make it a railroad, not even slightly. If this is your threshold for it, we will never see eye to eye on this or what is required to prevent one

yeah, your ‘resists’ and their ‘will not’ are really the same thing. If the characters resort to most of your suggestions they probably will drink, before that they won’t

if on the other hand the rules say you can get anyone to do anything if you are just persuasive enough, that might prevent railroading, but it also can lead to some pretty nonsensical situations.

lol, that is possible, have no numbers on that though

I am fine with the metric, I just think it is way too early for a conclusion. Of course sales will pick up initially, you have essentially the same number of new people coming in and created people upgrading to the new edition, the latter is obviously a bump. Having no bump would have been a...

I’d say it was a good decision to have 2e, they just did stick with it too long Pretty sure the bump in 1e was triggered by 2e too, otherwise it would have continued its decline It was consistently able to generate more sales for a while, because the previous edition had already dropped...

regardless of the results the GM arrives at and how much player input they incorporate? So unless there is a prescriptive procedure that the DM has to follow, it would not be a sandbox, regardless of whether what the GM arrives at could be an outcome of that procedure or even be better (more...

it never was a concern at all for me, but then all car engines are nearly identical enough that the minor differences do not really matter. These days you can roughly distinguish between gas powered, EV, and a hybrid and that is all the detail you really need to care about. The same is not true...

D&D 5E (2014) I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

ToV was kickstarted in May 2023 with delivery in April 2024, so a little ahead of the 2024 PHB (the ToV DMG was a separate KS) Whatever happened to the Cubicle 7 5e, did they officially drop it? I know they made some 5e supplements instead, not sure if there will officially never be a PHB though

A5e came earlier, ToV was a reaction to the OGL move by WotC (and overlapped with 5.5 development)

if using that power to force the players into a direction, sure, there is nothing that says it needs to be used in that way or be used at all however

Hussar’s sandbox is mostly ad-libbed and I do not see you calling it a railroad. Also, I doubt a railroad is ‘a considered’ amount of it
