Setting with humans only (that is, all races as humans)

I've dealt with this from time to time by positing fantasy biology rather than fantasy races. Twelve Kingdoms is a rather extreme example of this where people don't have children per se, rather a couple who is 'engaging' regularly will feel compelled to visit a tree (call it the civilization...

    Dragon Fist physical copy

Geez. That's a heartbreaking bit of information. How much more would the GSL have to change?

    Wardens in Fantasy

The Green Knight. Hercules. Also, some Herc Opponents. Cuchulain - though he's sort of a hybrid warden/barbarian All of that's more myth than fantasy.

What would you like to see 3rd parties produce for 4E?

I'd like to see two of the following, by which I mean that there are probably many things I would like to see besides these two things: A series of Al-Quadim/Oriental Adventure & Wuxia/Horror books that give you adventures, flavor, and side rules for different cultures and genres for...

    Hubris 4e

My party ran from a Manticore at 4th level. The DM set up the encounter with the following: A quest that lured us into the Manticore's territory with a guide the gradual realization that this 'quest' and 'guide' were a set up to lure adventurers into nasty encounters and then loot their...

    Pitch your homebrew!

Terrahausen. An homage to the work and spirit of Harryhausen and to the monstrous creative spirit that should elevate the Monster Manual over the PHB. Picture the Island in Peter Jackson's vesion of King Kong. All inimical wilderness, terrible monsters, and ruins with no help of Renaissance...

D&D 4E The divine beings for my 4E setting

I like that all of the angels are attempting redemption - more or less - but that some are simply far less zealous about it than others. It gives the 'wicked gods' trope a lot more traction if their wickedness isn't in what they do so much as that they refuse to do it well or in a beneficial...

3/4 hps, +1/2 level damage working nicely!

I've often thought about introducing such measures as temporary parts of the game. So you'd have three cinematic speeds: 1.) Montage. Very speedy. Weighted towards PCs. 2.) Fight Scene. A little speedy. Not much weight either way. 3.) Boss Fight. Deliberate Pace. Monsters made more...

    Dwarven Pirate Challenge

Hmm. Dwarves who use icebergs as Motherships? They're homeland is on the edge of a mighty glacial shelf and each year at 'Calving time' they tame the icebergs that float past their strongholds. Using a mix of magic and engineering they carve out homes among the ice and retrofit the outer...

    All-arcane party

Oh thank goodness, I thought no one was going to mention staff fighting. That +1 to defense is awful nice.

Experts on other systems, why aren't they d&d?

It's more that it's naive to think that you have the perfect argument, because that's actually a pretty un-naive criteria for a fairly perfect argument. But I believe that the original was made more as a point of advised (rather than fallacious) caricature, which Mustrum continued as a bit of...

Curse the horror that is Double-Post-thulu.

Flavor Mish-mash and favored classes (what 4e got wrong)

My group ended up going with Con/Int for Tieflings, although we haven't figured out how to make the racial power into something we like yet. I could totally see different stats for Male and Female Drow, but, on the other hand, I can also see that Dark Pact Warlock makes a lot more sense than...

    Speculation -- next Friday's PH3 Playtest?

If it's a monkey-race/Vanara or talking animal/Hengeyokai race I will be totally stoked. Personally, I think the near total absence of Centaurs is a little suspicious.

    Weapons on Sticks

All right sure, but two points: 1.) The Roundhead is described from a 17th century source describing a 17th century weapon. 2.) Shoddy 19th century amateur medieval research is part of the fun!

Bec de Corbin and other Blunt Polearms

I think the only purpose to having two is to have a superior option you can spend a feat on if you so desire.

Bec de Corbin and other Blunt Polearms

I saw and commented in that thread. Regarding what you say here, though, I don't know if spear is all that great an additional weapon group to polearm. Clearly there are spears that are also polearms, but for the purposes of most feats and enchantments the two terms have a lot of overlap.

    Weapons on Sticks

I did a wiki-search on polearms recently as a result of an argument with a fellow DM over this very issue. It was actually surprising to see how many identified types of polearms were not covered by DnD. The Roundhead was my particular favorite

Bec de Corbin and other Blunt Polearms

I don't know. The d6 seems really low even with high crit. My temptation would be to recommend 1d8 with high crit for the military. And d10 with +3 for the superior and no properties beyond reach.
