    D&D 4E Forked Thread: Al-Qadim, Land of Fate 4e

I wonder if we should go the Exalted route and develop both traditional campaigns and then HUGE mystery campaigns that themselves could span several of the more traditional campaigns. Exalted Examples were things like: Play out the Realm Civil War Play out the Advent of Autocthon Undo the Great...

    D&D 4E Forked Thread: Al-Qadim, Land of Fate 4e

Maybe a Brawler/Thug/Gladiator type? Someone who's bark is worse than his bite, but his bite ain't bad? Have the kit emphasize the old 'weapon performance' rules. Or, if you really wanted to go crazy, create a Harem Guard kit. Someone who looks very impressive, is actually pretty good at...

    D&D 4E Forked Thread: Al-Qadim, Land of Fate 4e

Mercenary Barbarian always struck me as an interesting kit since it was the one 'foreigner' that really worked for the setting as anything other than a foreigner. Now, we could wait till Barbarian comes out to do those guys, and I think that's a great choice. Though the original kit worked as...

    D&D 4E Forked Thread: Al-Qadim, Land of Fate 4e

I don't know. I am an old Al-Quadim fan and one of the things I most loved about the setting was that it was the place where no one could tell you what to do race-wise unless you wanted to play a genie or yakman. Forbidding Dragonborn seems to make genies and yakmen less special. Including...

    D&D 4E Forked Thread: Al-Qadim, Land of Fate 4e

I'm without steady internet access at the moment, so it may not be till this weekend that I can provide really solid feedback. Re: Dragonborn. In the spirit of Al-Quadim we can go two ways with them. First of all, there could just be Dragonborn among the Enlightened. They either weren't...

    D&D 4E Forked Thread: Al-Qadim, Land of Fate 4e

Yeah, I was thinking that it would be interesting to: Tie the Caliph's fertility into a Devil's Bargain Have someone orchestrate the solutions to each and every plot designed to render him useless Create a conflict within these solutions that has far reaching complications Then have the...

    ERB-Barsoom-John Carter of Mars

I've had an itch for months now to make a 4E Burroughs style setting/campaign. Getting the projectiles right is a little difficult without generous amounts of handwavium. Which is probably how Burroughs did it.

    D&D 4E Forked Thread: Al-Qadim, Land of Fate 4e

You know Mouseferatu is a huge Arabian Adventures fan. If someone can PM him it might be worth it to see if he's interested on a casual level. There are some rules elements I'd be interested in, too, but I think it'll work well to let people have a focus but keep the boundaries loose. One...

    D&D 4E Forked Thread: Al-Qadim, Land of Fate 4e

Well, my own temptation would be to develop the Spell Plague as an optional event. That would parallel the old Zakhara is an optional addendum to the Realms protocol. There's some passion for Al-Quadim out on the net. Wolfgang Baur at least found enough people to fund a patron project last...

    D&D 4E Forked Thread: Al-Qadim, Land of Fate 4e

So. According to the Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide, the Spell-Plague happened in Kara-Tur as well as Faerun. So logically it must have affected Zhakara. What would Zhakara look like in the wake of such an event? Cause just on the face of it, I think it would be pretty freaking bad. But I...

    D&D 4E Forked Thread: Al-Qadim, Land of Fate 4e

Hmm. I'd be tempted to say that heavy armor uses up a healing surge if you wear it for more than an hour or in heavy combat. Then you can slap on even more healing surge penalties in the right environment. Maybe you could use Endurance checks to resist the surge leak. This is in line with...

    D&D 4E Forked Thread: Al-Qadim, Land of Fate 4e

Well, you could use role as a heurestic, that is - Is a Barber a Striker or a Leader? Now you could certainly do a striker who heals in the same sense that a Paladin is a defender who heals. Or you could do a Leader who strikes. I don't think a strict mechanical distinction really works...

Fantasy Communities - Melting pots or racially pure (ish)?

Melting pots for me. I figure there are distinct melting pots, however, with different sets or races melting in different pots. I also figure that since these are distinct species they are going to have distinct places even within the same pot. So that even though all the citizens of the...

What is Expected from an Oriental Game Setting?

I think it's largely a question of genre. An Arabian Adventures setting lives or dies on whether or not it's possible to run adventures that merge the genre sensibilities of the Arabian Nights, Early Modern Pulp Near Eastern Intrigue, and the Romances of Al-Andulus into a DnD scheme. Oriental...

    D&D 4E Forked Thread: Al-Qadim, Land of Fate 4e

I almost think that Merchant-Rogue and Barber should be Warlord builds and the Rawun should be a Warlock. Barbers get healing powers just as Warlord's do, and they take the Warlord to an interesting place by making the class a leader in terms of support rather than opportunity. The Barber...

    Dwarf Mountains: Alps or Rockies?

I think of canyon country - which I suppose could be the S. Rockies - or Appalachia. I think of Dwarves as living in the Old Bones of the world, where fertile valleys are hidden within boundless hill country, and the metals of the earth are both shallow and deep. Though I like the Andes idea a...

    D&D 4E Converting 4E to Al-Qadim

Hmm, some additions in no particular order: Fighter: Champion Warlock: Kahin Astrologer Demon-Pact Warlord: Rawun Barber (the weapon training is off, but otherwise the Barber works for a Warlord, how could we work it? Limit the armor to hide?)

Pathfinder 1E Lisa Stevens, CEO of Paizo, commenting about ENWorld

This is a discussion forum not a blog. If you speak, you will have your words discussed. Otherwise, why are you expressing yourself here? Trying to deny that dynamic is succeeding at wasting everyone's time and painting yourself a troll. I think the idea that ENWorld is blatantly pro-4E...

    D&D 4E Converting 4E to Al-Qadim

Hmm, I'd say make it X = your INT modifier. That might still be abusable, but it would certainly make it less powerful than a wis bonus. Or you could still go wis but limit the bonus to non attack and non damage. So you'd get your +1 to AC for 4 rounds but not your +2 to attack for 4 rounds.
