D&D is not a supers game.

Two points: The PC isnt taking a broadsword to the face... at least not until the blow that drops him or her to 0 or less. Being able to be dropped in a single blow is indeed russian roulette, it discourages ever entering combat, to take the path of least heroics. So anything other than your...

D&D 5E (2014) Poll on the Reaper: is damage on missed melee attack roll believable and balanced?

Sorry, this was not totally about you but about that ~8% or so that say they'll walk away. Sorry If I misquoted.

D&D 5E (2014) Poll on the Reaper: is damage on missed melee attack roll believable and balanced?

Here is the thing though, 10 rounds imo is already entirely too long. Sure in the long run its more hp but how does that make any difference? If the thing is still standing after 10 rounds the fighter deserves to kill it with auto damade for standing up to it so long.

another point would be that in 4e, everybody had inflated hit points. that 1st level goblin had 25 or so hit points as well. it was not some kind of one sided durability match.

D&D 5E (2014) Poll on the Reaper: is damage on missed melee attack roll believable and balanced?

I think Attitudes like this are never going to be happy with next, as it's a game toted to be a modular play what you want to play kind of game. I honestly dont understand how something like this small effect can ruin a game for someone.

    D&D 5E (2014) I Don't Like Damage On A Miss

Oh, so now we are going there. Im not even gonig to stoop to that level... Im done here.

D&D 5E (2014) Poll on the Reaper: is damage on missed melee attack roll believable and balanced?

See I dont see apples and oranges, I see two instances of damage that no matter what you are going to take some kind of damage either by physical, luck or other mystic means. Unless we get back to MAGIC! It`s better then not MAGIC!

D&D 5E (2014) Poll on the Reaper: is damage on missed melee attack roll believable and balanced?

I guess this is the crux of it, I feel that the ability has a great default narration and it can be narrated in any way it needs to be for the corner cases. I guess I am a narritivist or whatever you call them.

D&D 5E (2014) Poll on the Reaper: is damage on missed melee attack roll believable and balanced?

How is save for half damage not half damage on a miss? I mean I can see how a save is to get out of something already effecting you, IE: A fireball is kinda hard to dodge. But so is the full fury of a rage strike from a barbarian. I dont see how you still taking damage from a fireball and...

D&D 5E (2014) Poll on the Reaper: is damage on missed melee attack roll believable and balanced?

the issue is, I dont believe it's possible to have some kind of neutral core rules. In either way, from what I thought I heard that modules are going to be included in the core rule book. so its not like these things are not going to be in the core rule book.

D&D 5E (2014) Poll on the Reaper: is damage on missed melee attack roll believable and balanced?

Actually I was going for the party putting so much heat on the death knight that even though the slayer was missing he was still contributing. And tell me, have you never seen death by incompetence in any kind of media? It's not that uncommon and not that anti-climatic.

D&D 5E (2014) Poll on the Reaper: is damage on missed melee attack roll believable and balanced?

Considering it's not a theme limited to the fighter why does it need to be seen in the fighter scops only?

D&D 5E (2014) Poll on the Reaper: is damage on missed melee attack roll believable and balanced?

I like how my style of play is wahoo, but staunch adherence to some make believe standard of realism is gold.

D&D 5E (2014) Poll on the Reaper: is damage on missed melee attack roll believable and balanced?

no, he is choosing to see something that is not implied. The Slayer is so ferocious in his attacks that even his misses damage your physical/Luck/Mystical defenses. I don't know how you get slapstick out of that unless you choose to see it that way.

D&D 5E (2014) Poll on the Reaper: is damage on missed melee attack roll believable and balanced?

that's actually kinda funny, inclusiveness doesn't mean "Exclude everything that the old school thinks is stupid".

D&D 5E (2014) Poll on the Reaper: is damage on missed melee attack roll believable and balanced?

IME, it varies from player to player. and the abstraction gives each player the option to do it as they please. in the same game we had a barbarian who took the very literal flesh and blood path and a player who chose to play a sorcerer child who never took a "hit" ever (except the ones that...

D&D 5E (2014) Poll on the Reaper: is damage on missed melee attack roll believable and balanced?

I think it's your own choice that makes is slapstick. I would choose to see it rather: "Grorignak the Slayer Attacks the Scourge of the land each attack narrowly missing but driving the Deathknight back into a further precarious position as the attacks of the rest of the party seek him out...

D&D 5E (2014) Poll on the Reaper: is damage on missed melee attack roll believable and balanced?

Eh, I think we are gonig to have to agree to disagree. I think it makes sense, and you dont. I dont know how else to argue, your just cemented in your ways.
