D&D 5E (2014) Dark sun Times of change

As the cart sets out on its journey, Tarsin exchanges quick, subtle hand signals with Akylanthes, developed over years living together on the fringes of civilization. He indicates that they should take turns keeping watch, not ready to trust this motley troupe. Upon seeing that he has been...

Tarsin finds the most comfortable arrangement he can manage in the cart and settles in. "Well, no sense waiting for sunrise, let's be on our way." Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using EN World mobile app

Yeah, clearly we aren't meant to learn about this guy at this point. He must keep things very close to the vest.

As I understand it none of us ever met before today. That's a useful skill to have access to, but 1) I didn't know you had it, and 2) I wouldn't have trusted you to ask. With time, both of those things may change. :)

Does it seem like people don't know anything, or they dislike me and are just saying things to get me to leave, or are lying to protect Vorden, or are afraid of him, etc.? Insight: 1D20 = [7] = 7 (Maybe I have no idea.)

    Persuasion : 1D20+6 = [1]+6 = 7 In case it's relevant for looking around for the right people to talk to: Investigation: 1D20+3 = [3]+3 = 6

Yes, Tarsin and Akylanthes are both literate. If we're setting out at dusk or so, I want to spend at least some of the afternoon investigating this Vorden (right?) fellow to see if I can learn anything about his motives, allegiances, etc. He's a merchant lord right? If so I'll start with...

I have a scholar's pack, which contains ink (and a pen) and parchment. Are there and DS-specific changes that need to be made to that? (I'm thinking about copying down my own copies of any interesting info from these paintings and want to make sure I have my own materials.) Sent from my...

What does the letter say? Do we have any idea why we specifically were summoned/employed by this guy? Also I assume none of us knows each other yet (apart from what's in our backgrounds). Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using EN World mobile app

Tarsin: "Your cart contains the necessary supplies for copying these paintings?" I'm trying to avoid appearing like I'm particularly interested in the paintings, but rather give the impression that I'm concerned about the difficulty of copying them. Perhaps I'm illiterate. If necessary...

    Rant about my Party

It occurred to me after I figured out who this NPC noblewoman your allies slaughtered actually is (I'm currently running CoS): How does your DM respond to this behavior? I suppose it would be reasonable to operate under the theory that your job as DM is to facilitate the game your players want...

    Rant about my Party

I mean, do you want to burn down orphanages? Imagining myself in a similar position, I don't think switching characters would be a satisfactory answer for me. I want my D&D character to be a hero of some sort. Sure, maintaining the party matters, but if the party is playing a game that you (the...

    Help Making Characters Interesting

Thanks for the suggestions all. I'll definitely have to try to be more performative. I'll check that table on quirks, but does anyone have other suggestions for creating personality traits for NPCs? That's also always my biggest challenge when creating PCs. I'm pretty good at creating bonds...

Help with a fantasy world concept of creation and destruction needed.

Is the whole world being destroyed to the point that it no longer exists before being recreated, or is it more like continual "world ending" cataclysms? I like the idea of the latter (though of course it's your world not mine so that doesn't matter), and it puts me in mind of Isaac Asimov's...

    Help Making Characters Interesting

Most of my RPG time these days is DMing a game for my family, and I'm having a hard time imbuing my NPCs with any real personality. The same is somewhat true for my PCs, but it's a less pronounced effect. My biggest challenges include: 1) All the characters basically talk like me. I don't do...

D&D 5E (2014) Dark sun Times of change

Even over the din of the market Tarsin had no trouble picking out the tune of his bard's signal. He lingered a few minutes, as agreed beforehand; no need to broadcast his relationship with his spy by following him in directly. He pretended to study the wares of a clothing and textile merchant...
