Scout: Dual Weapon Attack & Power Strike interaction

It's obvious to everyone that this was not intended by the developers, and that's the problem. Rules, at least for something as simple as adding damage to an attack, should be perfectly unambiguous and able to be played exactly as written. The problem comes from the fact that, as written, they...

    Obsolete Feats

It's listed as such in the Warlock entry on the Compendium.

Opportunity Attacks - no limit ?

It's one round, because what matters is enemy turns, not your turns. You can't take OAs during your turn, so the end result is that you will have Threatening Reach for one of each of your opponent's turns (barring them delaying past your turn or something like that).

    Virtual tabletops?

WotC's Virtual Tabletop is currently in closed beta, but many folks are in on that beta. There's also a variety of other options, free and otherwise.

    Essentials feat too powerful???

Oh yeah, for any given character, I can usually come up with eight to ten must-have feats, and another two or three that would be very nice, mechanically. That means that I actually have to make tough choices as to which to take first, so the system is working. (And, when you run out of good...

    Essentials feat too powerful???

Because then there would far fewer ways to customize your character mechanically and pick out awesome combos that ride the edge of brokenness, causing the game to appeal to you instead of to me.

    Nah, they haven't anything Buck-Rogers-related…

    Character Builder Copy and Paste

Except "later" never actually happens, and the "simple thing" remains as an ugly hack with a TODO comment forever. This happens all the time in software development. ALL. THE. TIME. ;)

    why play rogue/thief?

Not quite, Reserve Maneuver only lets you swap for a power from your class, but has no restrictions on the power you're swapping out apart from being an encounter attack power (so you can swap out a Paragon Path or Theme encounter attack power).

What's the Best Controller|Controller Hybrid at 11th level?

Yeah. Expanding on my reply to over on RPG.net to this same thread, doubling up on Controller or Striker costs you class features for pretty much no increase in what you can do. Doubling up on Defender for insane marking potential or Leader for passive buff stacking can work (see the...

    Action Point usage

In fact, as I read it, you don't need to use the extra action as an effect of spending the point, and can thus spend an AP, get your random side-benefit, do a move or minor action, and then spend your two Standards. This came up in a P2 module last weekend, where somebody had some feature that...

There's also the Spiked Chain with the correct feat, which turns it into a +3 2d4 Reach Light Blade & Flail with off-hand on one end.

D&D 4E How easy is GMing 4ed without Monster Builder?

The Monster Builder is a broken piece of crap that will repeatedly delete half the text out of custom monsters you make. It used to work great until around July, then they wrecked it. Just use a plain text editor instead, browse through the Compendium for monsters, and make use of the MM3...

XP is way too high in 4th Edition!

I'm running a game of 4E that meets about three times a month due to schedule constraints for two to three hours per session. We generally get in one combat per session, with the rest of the time spent exploring, interacting, and otherwise role-playing. I'm not really tracking XP, just using...

    Optimize or Thematics?

Stoneroot's Endurance is transcendentally awful. It's only a chance to turn a crit into a normal hit, and monster crits are, intentionally, not that bad, as they tend to have less variability than PC crits due to the lack of extra crit dice. Let's say that your fights are four rounds long...

Loss of Ki - More Harm Than Good?

The thing is, stuff that could have existed but didn't is always more exciting than stuff which does exist because the imaginary always lives up to your expectations and never disappoints you. As far as PH3 having had two more classes and PH4 adding yet eight more classes, Wizards kind of...

The flattening of Dungeons and Dragons

No, it has nothing to do with maps. The reason 4E adventures have less fights in them is because of a fundamental difference in design philosophy. 4E battles are designed to be tactically richer, and as a result they take more real time to play out than battles in early versions of D&D, so...

Loss of Ki - More Harm Than Good?

Oh, is that all there is to it? Warmain, Mimic, Deceiver, Strategist—there, I just created the Excrucian power source. I guess it does leave out writing up class features and 30 levels of powers for each class as well as class- and power-source-specific feats, making sure that they're unique...

What changes/additions to multiclassing would you like to see?

If you build a hybrid carefully, you can pretty much fulfill two full roles at once. Strikers and Controllers basically need to dedicate their Standard Actions to their role. Defenders and Leaders, however, can get their job done through Minor and Immediate Actions and passive effects (with...
