    Runepriest Article Bumped Again!

Wow, those are uniformly mediocre. The flavor text is okay, but mechanically they're dull and uninspiring. And I say this as someone who loves playing a runepriest—they're already a fun, front-line buffing platform with some distinctive powers, but I was hoping for something to expand on that...

    No Character Builder Update

For reference works, books are a terrible medium. You want random access, full search, and ubiquitous access to any reference work that might be useful. Electronic text is much, much better at this. The real world basically sucks as a place to store indices. Card catalogs were laborious to...

    magic missile always hits again???

Attacks without attack rolls required rules changes to actually work. Technically, they came into existence a few months before the Magic Missile change when Dragon printed that terrible level 3 Wizard Encounter Power that's auto-damage, but no one cared about it because no one ever took it...

    No Character Builder Update

For me, the looking up is the entire process of building the character. That's the value the character builder brings to the table, not the fact that is automatically does some piddly addition. I have a 6th-level fighter. He already has options (race, class features, powers or feats) from...

RITUALS will be officially modified :)

This. Even if the material cost is small, the psychological difference between free and any price at all is enormous. Players don't want to spend their gold on single-shot effects even if they have a mountain of it, because they could use it to buy permanent magic items or they might need it...

Sneak Attack : Do Not Maximize

Right. Specifically, you can choose to use optional damage-adding features and powers, like Hunter's Quarry and Sneak Attack, or a half-orc's Furious Assault and a Slayer's Power Strike, *after* you already know that you crit and thus that the damage you choose to add will be maximized. For...

    D&D 4E Uninteresting 4E Magic Items (help!)

Magic items and inherent bonuses both provide Enhancement Bonuses, and thus do not stack with each other and work perfectly fine in the same campaign. You can think of the inherent bonus as guaranteeing an absolute minimum enhancement bonus based on character level, with individual items of...

    Heroes of the Forgotten Kingdoms

You forgot to mention that now Eladrin are better Dark Pact Warlocks than Drow are. :)

    Heroes of the Forgotten Kingdoms

Remember, that's 1150 6"x9" pages vs 550 8.5"x11" pages. If we look at total surface area, it's only 20% more, and if we consider margins, then it's only 11% more text.

    Dwarven Weapon Training... really?

Not if Avengers and Battleminds didn't break it. Dwarves have had melee classes that rely on their favored attributes for a long time.

    quick magic missile damage question

Magic Missile is "auto-hit" (which really means it's auto-damage and doesn't hit at all), but the reason it's low damage is because it has no damage roll, which is entirely separate (see powers like Prismatic Strands, which roll to hit but have no damage roll). Most damage boosters apply only...

Need help IDing a low level magic item

I'm pretty sure such an item never existed, because if it did, it's so good that every CharOp character ever would have one.

    Cha Build Question

It's not the heavy armor, it's the heavy shield. For some bizarre reason, the Character Builder implements Heavy Shields as giving you +4 AC and Reflex in the first Misc column and -2 AC and Reflex in the second Misc column, for the correct total of +2 AC and Reflex. Similarly, Light Shields...

Elder Red Dragon preview is up

I think Stun is a terrible piece of game design. "Lose a turn" mechanics (in pretty much any game) are boring and actively unfun. If you're stunned, there's nothing for you, the player, to do. Just go get a snack and come back next round because you're out of the game. Stunning the whole...

    Getting Combat Challenge More Involved

Combat Challenge will trigger about once every encounter or two for my Fighter, nearly always from someone shifting so they can get away from me. Someone provoking a plain old OA, though, has only happened to me once in six levels of play under different LFR GMs. It really is that bad of an idea.

    Strange Question RE: 4e.

The only reason shifting exists is to let you move without counting as movement for purposes of provoking.

    How does resist actually work?

That's not what it says. It's says you're taking 10 ongoing damage. That's it. If it meant that you needed to keep saving against the ongoing 5 damage because it would still be there if you saved against the 10 ongoing damage, then it would say that.

    D&D 4E Most useless 4e Feat?

Focused Expertise isn't actually in the game. It was a playtest Feat that got replaced with Versatile Expertise. Agreed that Barreling Charge, under current rules, does absolutely nothing, so it's at least tied for the current "winner". Are there any Feats that actually make your character worse?
