'Everything Is a Story' Inside Wyrmwood Gaming's Narcissistic Funhouse

For a more economical option I bought a Jasper from Board Game Tables some years back. We use it as a dining room table, and it’s held up nicely. https://www.letsallplay.com/

'Everything Is a Story' Inside Wyrmwood Gaming's Narcissistic Funhouse

I got a Hammered game table. I actually just picked it up over the weekend. It was well worth the wait. http://hammeredgametables.com/

'Everything Is a Story' Inside Wyrmwood Gaming's Narcissistic Funhouse

A while back when I decided it was time to invest in a fancy gaming table I considered Wyrmwood. After reading this article, I'm very happy I decided against them. The leadership sounds terrible.

    D&D 5E (2024) A simpler game is a better game...for us

If all the edition wars have taught me anything, its that you will never have a version of D&D that pleases everyone! One player's simple and streamlined is another's boring and banal, another player's complex and custom is another overblown and onerous! I like most of the changes in One D&D...

    D&D 5E (2024) What would you put in 1D&D from 4E?

Things I would bring in from 4E: The bloodied condition (though it needs some actual effects). Monster design--both the notion of minion, standard, elite, and solo monsters, and some of the more unique combat options. Trap and Hazard design--both the mechanics and the way they easily integrate...

    D&D 5E (2024) Pulse check on 1D&D excitement level

I have few quibbles here and there, and I think a few things like the Druid probably need significant work, but overall I really like the direction of the playtest.

D&D General How to reboot the Forgotten Realms (+)

I'm getting ready to start a FR campaign in the Grey Box era, set in the Dales. I made one minor modification that the Time of Troubles allegedly happened a few hundred years ago so that Cyric and Kelemvor can be around because I like them as gods, but they are fairly minor faiths. We just had...

D&D 5E (2024) D&D Survey Results and The Future of Playtest | Unearthed Arcana

I know this thread has become largely about the ardling and the classes, but I thought one of the more interesting parts of the video was about the Jump action. While I was not thrilled with spending an action to jump, I thought the mechanics of jumping were vastly superior to the existing...

D&D 5E (2024) D&D Survey Results and The Future of Playtest | Unearthed Arcana

Agreed. I think one thing that probably hurt the ardling was the fact that they were likely supposed to be related to guardinals, which as far as I know have never appeared in a 5E product. The differences in the three types of fiends are well defined, not so much their celestial counterparts.

    D&D 5E (2024) Where is the new OneD&D playtest?

I think the other packets have released on Thursdays, so maybe it will be this Thursday. If they wait too long for the OGL tempers to cool (which never will for some), I think they risk running out of time to playtest everything, especially if something needs to be reworked a couple of times.

    D&D 5E (2024) So Will 'OneD&D' (6E) Actually Be Backwards Compatible?

I think it all depends on how you define compatibility. If you expect yo be able to use every feat, subclass, and other player from 5E, I'd guess no. But I'm thinking most things a DM uses, magic items, monsters, and adventures will need little to no effort to use. Since the underlying math and...

The stupid part of all of this...

I couldn't agree more. Beyond the presumable lack of understanding of D&D, their actions suggest a lack of confidence in their VTT's ability to compete.. I'd think you'd want to fourth the vibe that you think your VTT will be so great it'll leave the other guys in the dust.

    D&D 5E (2024) Where is the new OneD&D playtest?

Yeah, I figure the design team--who have probably been hiding under the desk cursing management for the past few weeks--deserve a week to get their bearings. Plus a new packet would get lost in all the celebration (and probably a few conspiracy theories that this is all an elaborate trick).

Now that this is over (for now at least) What are you going to do?

I think I'm going to reactivate my D&D Beyond subscription. Positive reinforcement is important.

WotC Backs Down: Original OGL To Be Left Untouched; Whole 5E Rules Released as Creative Commons

This is certainly good news! Well done all. I know a lot of folks didn't think it could never happen, but never forget that the corporate greed pendulum swings both ways, especially when they see a threat to profits!

    Matt Colville weighs in.

I may be a bad person to weigh in on this because I have no idea who Matt Colville is, but I think his take is wrong. Even assuming WotC's plan is to to attempt to move the game to a subscription-based and/or microtransaction space (which seems likely), I don't know that it will be as bad as he...

OGL v1.2 Survey Feedback: 'Hasn't Hit The Mark'

it‘s good to hear they acknowledge there are still issues, we’ll see what they come up with. They’ve got their work cut out for them, because I’m not sure that anything short leaving 1.0a or a 1.0b that adds language about being irrevocable will be acceptable to the community at this point...

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

For those demanding a pound of flesh in the form of terminations of leadership involved in the OGL decisions, I have an honest question: Would you rather have folks at the helm who've lived though this experience and and felt the wrath of the community, or some new suit who thinks they're the...

D&D General Are You Seriously Planning to Stop Playing and/or Running D&D Over The Recent OGL Developments?

I find the while OGL situation shameful and disappointing, but at the end of the day, (a) I really like 5E (and so far I like most of what I've seen from the play test) and (b) I really don't care for most of the other games out there that I've tried (PF2 in particular landed with a major thud...

D&D 5E (2024) Have we potentially seen the end of the OneD&D Playtest?

If WotC backs down from their current plan, which I think is increasingly likely (but by no means guaranteed), I think the best thing would be to hold off on a play test release to let tempers cool.
