UCon Ann Arbor MI Nov 17-19

I was joking. Sure, I'm willing to meet ENworlders. I just think it's a little early to try to schedule a meeting, since none of us have any idea what our schedules are like -- preregistration hasn't even opened yet.

I'm planning on going, but I don't really know any of you people.

    Your own personal gaming terms...

Huh. We used to use that one in Ohio, too. 2E used the abbreviation PHBR for "Player's Handbook Rules Supplement". I knew a guy who called them "the pherbers". There was also a cluster of guys in my gaming club who turned the abbreviation "M-U" into "mu", as a shorthand for "magic-user". I...

How Much Does Attending GenCon Cost?

The Contrarian method: Gas: $60 (that's from SE Michigan, in a Dodge Neon) Campground: $25/night, three nights ~= $80 w/tax Badge: $75 (I registered late) Events: $11 (I do fill up on free events, though, so I have someplace to go if I'm bored) Food: less than $20/day -- I ate breakfast at the...

    Battlemat stains :(

You know what's good for cleaning blood stains? The anticoagulant solution that's used to keep bags of donated blood from clotting. Get some of that stuff, and you can get blood out of almost anything. I'm am not going to explain how I know that, so nobody ask.

    GenCon 2007

Actually, it isn't. There are people on the gencon.com forums who've already admitted to booking a room. (Many of those are just booking fallback reservations they'll cancel if they get a better deal through the Gencon housing block.) Although, to be fair, many hotel/motel websites don't let...

1E Gamma World: Escape From The Embassy Suites - Thurs & Fri - 1:15-5:15

That's weird. I e-mailed you the same day you asked for our addresses. Anyway, got the download now.

    How did you start?

I learned of roleplaying games' existence back in 1980 (I was in the third grade) from some guys who kept bringing their rulebooks to school, but my mother wouldn't let me play because she heard it was satanic. It took three years of wearing her down before I finally convinced her to buy me...

    Interesting Gen Con releases?

OSRIC is an almost-1E OGL system. The CAS modules are all going to use the Creations Unlimited system that Rob Kuntz used for the adventures he wrote after leaving TSR -- like a lot of 1980s indy products, it depends on "universal" characteristics that are very 1E-compatible.

    Interesting Gen Con releases?

Actually, 1E stuff is popping up left and right, it's just that most (none?) of it can say AD&D on the packaging: http://www.pied-piper-publishing.com/index.php/home (pre-orders for the first module are supposed to ship this week, so a few people may have a copy before Gencon)...

    D&D 4E Will 4E be announced?

I have a related question: Will security be checking our bags at the door for rotten tomatoes?

    Gary Gygax, World Dictator?

I, for one, welcome our new, bearded, dice-rolling overlord.

    Dice Questions?

They're not pictured, but they're still listed in the middle of the six-sider page: http://chessex.com/Dice/Specialty%20Dice/6_sided.htm They're the ones listed as "formerly ARY DIE-001", etc, for a buck each.

    Dice Questions?

Chessex's website still lists the Armory six-sided race and class dice. Do you know if Chessex is discontinuing those in favor of the new 12-siders? Nice to see alignment dice back. I'd been looking for a pair.

DM's: Gems, Jewelry, Artwork & Copper pieces..do you actually describe them?

This is where having a 1E DMG is really handy, because Gygax stuffed it full of seemingly useless lists like "Reputed Magical Properties of Gems" and "Herbs, Spices, and Medicinal Vegetables", providing useful information like hematite "Aids fighters, heals wounds" and turnips cure "throat...

How many humanoid species are cross-breedable in your campaign?

My campaign is still 1E/2E, so it's basically whatever the book says, rules-wise. Culturally, half-elf PCs always have human mothers, and usually don't know anything about their fathers, because the PC is a changeling (in the "medievel folklore" sense, not the "shape-shifter or lycanthrope"...

The fireball spell through the editions

I used to let PCs do that back when I was 13 and didn't know any better. Which leads to My Best Fireball Story: PCs are slogging through G-1-2-3 Against the Giants. (It's been so long, I don't remember exactly which giant stronghold they were in.) They come to a closed door, the thief listens...

DM's: Gems, Jewelry, Artwork & Copper pieces..do you actually describe them?

D'nemy said almost everything I was going to say. I even agree with the "divas" bit -- I've had players who thought giving their PCs a favorite gem was an important roleplaying detail! (Then again, the 1E DMG thought it was important to note that dwarves dislike pearls, so maybe I shouldn't...

Proper Pronunciation of all D&D words!

TSR's Star Frontiers game used to stick apostrophes and hyphens into Vrusk words like K'tsa-Kar all the time. Since the Vrusk are essentially insectoid, I decided the apostrophe was a clicking noise, and the hyphen was a buzzing noise. I thought it would add versimilitude, but it mostly made...

1E Gamma World: Escape From The Embassy Suites - Thurs & Fri - 1:15-5:15

What do you want to know? I'm 34, this is my 3rd Gencon (first one Indy, though), and I really like Gamma World. (Never got to play 1E, but I've got the rulebook, so I'll brush up.) I don't post here much (because I'm not so much into the D20 sysrem), but I'm Contrarian on at least 6 other...
