D&D General Why the Great Thief Debate Will Always Be With Us

The Gygaxian vs Arnesonian play space framing is great! It highlights why I was always frustrated with a number of PHB2014 feats that said you could do things (like actor letting you mimic voices) when these felt like things that should have been things anyone should be able to try to do. With...

    D&D 5E (2024) Real Character Generation in 2024 PHB

I took really miss the fluffy Background features. I had used that design space to make custom backgrounds before. I really love it when the player characters have little ways their build influences how the world interacted with them, like a bard being all "don't worry, I'll find us an inn to...

    D&D 5E (2024) Wizard subclasses are a missed opportunity.

I wouldn't have minded if they had all of the Cleric and Wizard subclasses from 2014 PHB in 2024. They can have more than the other classes, as their core is genetic enough to cover multiple things. If I was Dungeon Dragons, I would have had 10 subclasses for each class in the PHB. I'm finding...

D&D 5E (2024) Dancing bards and true strike.

That seems like a perfectly reasonable addition. Free unarmed attack when you spend bardic inspiration, bonus action unarmed attack otherwise. I use true Strike with my dancer bard's quarterstaff, and then unarmed attacks on the side. Dancer bard with her own pole for pole vaulting is fun.

D&D General Fantasy Ecology (or "What the Heck is That!?")

Woops! Well, I'll be sure to make more ecological considerations and add them to the thread so it's not wrong. Hah! I did love reading and article I found a long time ago trying to piece together a huge dragon's caloric needs, and thus their territory size needs.

D&D General Fantasy Ecology (or "What the Heck is That!?")

Parallel World. The Spirit World is my mishmash of feywild, shadow, and elemental chaos stuff.

    D&D General Greyhawk Humanocentricism?

My own setting is a little humanocentric. I go with a basic "humans used to rule an empire that spanned the world", think far reaching like Greece, Rome, Mongolia, or Ottomans. The empire fractured because of reasons and war, but remnants of it still exist, such as new cultures of humans that...

D&D General Fantasy Ecology (or "What the Heck is That!?")

Hey everybody. I've been fiddling with my setting for a long time; sometimes it's half of my time spent thinking about gaming. I've been approaching my world building from a more sci-fi angle, considering what things could have evolved from and what it does in the world or society. Without...

D&D General Warlocks: Charisma vs Intelligence

Balance between multiclass options, and also balance for my love of sorting things.

D&D General Warlocks: Charisma vs Intelligence

My wife loves playing charisma casters and her Warlock (Half-Elf noble, quit wizard studies and went to the woods to make a pact with a fey instead) was her most recent character. She says she wouldn't have wanted to play an Int Warlock. Choice of stat, like A5E, is beating Int, and Cha is...

D&D General Warlocks: Charisma vs Intelligence

Sense Motive, Spot, and Listen skills used Wisdom in 3E. I only played 2E through Baldur's Gate so I don't know how it was handled in 2E.

D&D General Warlocks: Charisma vs Intelligence

Dexterity would have to be To Hit and Strength would have to be Damage for all* weapon attacks. Bow power is based on strength. Even crossbows require strength to load (but that can be assisted with a winch). Heck, even guns need strength; recoil is probably a big problem if the gun is stronger...

D&D General Warlocks: Charisma vs Intelligence

I ran a level 5 to 12 campaign where I gave everyone Perception proficiency and treated it more like a saving throw/defense. My reasoning is skills should be things you actively choose to do, while saves are reflexive. (so searching is a skill check, but not getting surprised by an assassin is a...

D&D General Warlocks: Charisma vs Intelligence

If I could figure out how to split Dex into Dexterity and Agility, and split Wisdom into Willpower and Awareness, I would. Wis and Dex's importance to most suggests they could maybe do with a split. Then again, condensing the 6 stats into four also has promise. Str+Con would be neat, because...

D&D General Warlocks: Charisma vs Intelligence

I had a jar of powdered chicken bouillon base that had on its instructions "stir 1 tbsp into 1 cup of boiling water for a delicious beverage." I tried chicken tea one cold winter day, and it was nice. Now to caffinate it!

D&D General Warlocks: Charisma vs Intelligence

I always wanted an Elementalist class, and since the Kineticist had some great ideas, I thought I'd start there. I had a 3E version that started with the Psionics Handbook's Pyrokineticist. Currently working on an Expanded version.

    D&D 5E (2024) Bastions in the 2024 DMs Guide

Same. I'm thinking one of all of the party members get bequeathed noble titles and are put in charge of a keep with a village. It was given to them primarily as a white elephant, meant to be a burden and target them for aggression for the other nobles, but being the players they'll make it their...
