D&D 5E (2014) If you don't like ASI at character creation...

Point Buy is currently 1 point per point for 9 through 13, and 2 points for 14 and 15. Standard Point Buy is 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8. If 16 and 17 cost 3 points (their modifiers) and 18 cost 4 points, we can. Assume 17, 14, 14, 12, 10, 8 as typical, which would be worth 35 points. So 35 point buy...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Ranger"

I thought I'd slap together a proposed patch for the new Ranger. I know it's super early, but the Hunter's Mark concentration and the Beast Master bonus action issues are too large for me to ignore. What do you think? Level 1: Spellcasting: Allow the Ranger to prepare all their spells each...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Ranger"

This is a feature I've wanted them have for a long time.

    D&D 5E (2014) A better model for Legendary Resistance

That's true. 4E's later solution was pretty neat. Some solos had 2 turns. They also got to shake off certain abilities at the end of a turn. So a stun could take down one of their turns, but it didn't lock them in forever.

    D&D 5E (2014) A better model for Legendary Resistance

What if they just get advantage on saves? Each time it is successful, check off a hit. When they end up succeeding 3 saves, the ability is expended. Or they get 3 rerolls.

D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Players Handbook reveal: "New Crafting Rules"

I miss when crafting had a little mini game. Roll your tool check, multiply by something, and you make that much GP progress toward completing. Can check multiplied by DC work? DC 10 for a standard healing potion would be 1 day of work.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Ranger"

I really like this. I just went and crunched some minor numbers, comparing a TWFing rogue to a TWFing ranger, not using hunters mark and assuming the 11th level subclass features are gonna be comparable to getting a 3rd attack. The ranger is solidly behind the rogue at every level, and that's...

D&D General Build the "Definitive Pantheon"

I love this. I'll use it for my next game!

D&D General Build the "Definitive Pantheon"

This brings up something I've been wondering. Why are their evil gods? What if all gods were Good or Neutral, the typical divine conflict being between Law and Chaos, while the Devils, Demons, and other fiends handle the evil. I too love the 4E pantheon, especially how it decouples gods from...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 D&D character sheet, what do you think?

I agree with not liking skills under each ability. It makes it harder to house rule in new skills. It also ties the skills to the abilities, though they might have abandoned that.

D&D General Coinage as Dragon Scales

I recall Silver dragons being described as having small scales that don't change size as they grow, so that they look smoother and smoother as they age. That was the thought I had. And yeah. Metallic dragons collect their own scales, while Chromatic dragons try to kill or steal from Metallic...

D&D General Coinage as Dragon Scales

I recently started rolling an idea around in my head. D&D worlds have a lot of precious metals going around. Piles of gold coins is unrealistic by real world standards. What if copper, silver, and gold coins are the scales of copper, silver, and gold dragons? What if that's part of why peaceful...

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Lied To Me. Gp vs Sp

I'm strongly tempted to switch to 100:1 in my games. All gp costs switch to sp costs, copper becomes usable, platinum is WEALTH.

    D&D General What are humans?

I actually really like this line of thinking. A few have noticed that I'm thinking in a more sci-fi way than a fantasy way when thinking about species, and that's true. For my own setting, I know each of the species evolutionary origins (humans are apes, halflings are spider monkeys, dwarves are...

    D&D General What are humans?

Game systems often get away with making humans generic. D&D has traditionally made their feature "adaptable" and just given them more of what everyone else already gets. A5E gave humans some unique features, which really helps them stand out. I'm curious about discussing humans from a...

    D&D 5E (2024) What Should D&D 2024 Have Been +

The player side of 5E is mostly okay with me, so I'm fine with new stuff and balance updates (and fixing the big offenders). It's the new DMG and Monster Manual that has my interests. But, standardizing rests would be great. BG3 having 2 short rests per long rest is so nice.

D&D General What Classes Would You Add to D&D?

Because D&D has wider reach and more people would see it and play it? I have an easier time getting a D&D game going than a Level Up game going because my players aren't as plugged in as I am. I use Level Up monsters in my D&D games and lots of the adventuring rules, but getting them to learn...

D&D General What Classes Would You Add to D&D?

But... This thread is "What Classes Would You Add to D&D?" So it existing in A5E doesn't change that I think they should be in D&D.

    I know, I mentioned A5E, I worked on it.

D&D General What Classes Would You Add to D&D?

If a Warlord of some kind were added to 5E, I think there's only a few other archetypes that are truly missing classes*. I operate under the principle of "if you can't make 10 subclasses for a new class, it's not a new class", which makes me object to some new class ideas. Elementalist...
