    D&D 5E (2024) Sigil Review Thread (+)

Ive been playing with Sigil for a few weeks. I find the interface a little clunky and I don't like how building blocks and props are organized. The lack of item names in the menus is tough, and needing to switch between multiple playsets to find things slows down building. We really need item...

D&D 5E (2024) Life drain needs to be replaced with Exhaustion

I would have stuck with the longer 10 point track they were toying with in play tests, made it recover 1 on a short rest, full on a long rest, and -1 penalty to all d20 rolls and spell DCs, -speed at some pattern. That would be fatigue. Points of exhaustion would be like the current exhaustion...

D&D 5E (2014) Ranger: House rule to fix Hunter's Mark

2d6 at spell level 3 is equivalent to having 2 attacks, which the ranger has at 5th level.

D&D 5E (2024) Life drain needs to be replaced with Exhaustion

I like the idea. Something I've been playing with is introducing Subdual Damage and Fatigue/Exhaustion. Subdual Damage and Fatigue are tracked separately, and stack with lethal damage and exhaustion, but they recover on a short rest instead of long rest. That way, they can be used as penalties...

D&D 5E (2014) Ranger: House rule to fix Hunter's Mark

I've switched it to no concentration, for everyone, and the damage is only applied once per round. But I also have the damage increase to 2d6 at 3rd level and 3d6 at 5th level, a long with duration improvements. The change I've been fiddling with is removing the ability to switch targets, but...

    D&D 5E (2024) Removing Concentration

Something I've been thinking about is that there are plenty of concentration spells that have potion version, and those don't take up concentration. Potions of energy resistance, potion of growth, potions of giant strength... Especially now that item crafting is more normalized, how does this...

    D&D 5E (2024) Challenge Rating (CR) and the 2024 /25 Books

The weird jumps in certain places is because PCs have levels where their power significantly jumps, like level 5. I have no idea where they got this progression from, but that's my assumption.

    D&D 5E (2024) Removing Concentration

Off the top of my head, Divine Favor lost concentration.

    D&D 5E (2024) Removing Concentration

If your DM removed concentration, but was very rigid and on top of spell durations, what spells would you abuse? What combos would you be concerned about?

D&D 5E (2024) Should Saving Throw DCs just be Ability Scores?

AC commonly starts at 15 and scales to 18-20+ before magic items get involved. That's the range for high ability scores, but it would be real rough for 8s, 10s, and 12s. Maybe if proficiency bonus was added to it, it could work.

D&D 5E (2024) Should Saving Throw DCs just be Ability Scores?

I like this idea in theory. Let's see where it goes. Standard PC spell DCs start at 13 (8 base + 3 mod + 2 prof) and grow to 19+ (8 base + 5 mod + 6 prof + ? magic items). High ability modifier starts at 15 and grows to 21+. That's the same +6. It starts 2 higher... My initial thought is just...

D&D 5E (2014) Giving monsters more (unlimited?) reactions in one turn

Fire Shield deals damage to creatures that hit you in melee. Changing that from fixed damage to an attack roll for potentially more damage is fine. Monsters don't need to follow the player rules. The reaction limitation is needed for player balance; it's okay for a monster to act differently, as...

    D&D 5E (2024) Variant True Strike

Hi everybody! We all celebrated when True Strike was changed. Now, after playing with it in a game (as a bard) and also playing with it in BG3 (arcane trickster, eldritch knight, sorcerer, and warlock), I find myself running into a conundrum: I like the new True Strike as it's own spell, but it...

    D&D 5E (2014) HOUSE-RULE: Options for Two-Weapon Fighting

Thanks! It's been working real well for me. Generally, high Str has Two-Handed weapons for damage, high Dex has Two-Weapon Fighting.

D&D 5E (2014) Why Do Higher Levels Get Less Play?

Epic books could really be made into little sets for the different classic roles (warrior, mage, expert, priest), with the mixed classes getting access to both. Then it's not just "which one will I pick?" but "I can't wait to get another".

D&D 5E (2014) Why Do Higher Levels Get Less Play?

Personally, I think there are 2 core issues: 1) Theme and Support: there have been more books and adventures to fill out the local and regional play styles than the world and multiplanar play styles of high level play. 2) Progression: People like numbers going up and getting new abilities...

    D&D 5E (2014) HOUSE-RULE: Options for Two-Weapon Fighting

correct; every twfer uses Vex if they can (and I've seen monk builds dip rogue or fighter for Vex to get another attack), so might as well bake it in and nix the problems. Oh, I forgot to mention, off-hand attacks don't benefit from mastery properties. OH! Maybe that can be the other bonus for...

D&D 5E (2024) Magic Missile is saved! Hooray!

I never thought of Magic Missile being the "He's down: Finish Him Off!" spell. I kind of like it being an anti concentration spell, as that makes it a good anti-mage spell and gives it a particular niche; it's just a bunch of DC10 checks, though, so it loses its utility at higher levels.

    D&D 5E (2014) HOUSE-RULE: Options for Two-Weapon Fighting

Here's what I have done for years, and rogues getting access to Vex proved it was balanced to me (updated for 2024): Basic fighting with two weapons: when you make an attack with a light weapon in your main hand, you may make a second attack with a different light weapon with your off-hand. The...
