    D&D 5E (2024) Adjusting Difficulty

I'm gonna give them a try, definitely, but they still don't take into account if your PCs are bare or sparkling Christmas trees loaded down with magic items. The raw player attack and ACs didn't change in the 5.5 rules, so I don't suspect monster attack and AC to be altered too much (except to...

    D&D 5E (2014) "Fixing" electrum pieces - looking for a player's perspective

I've never used EP in my games. In fact, I so hardly use CP and SP that I'm considering switching to 100 CP > 1 SP, 100 SP > 1 GP, and 100 GP > 1 PP. GP prices become SP prices, and silver gets used longer.

    D&D 5E (2024) Uncommon items - actually common?

I once took the 3E magic item creation rules, the GP limit by settlement rules, and the 3E spells to make a bunch of magic items that would revolutionize the world. A magic water pump could be made with Create Water for 1,000 gp, and it would spout two gallons of water every time someone pumped...

    D&D 5E (2024) Uncommon items - actually common?

I'm sorry: Not considering how magic item availability affects the rest of the world creates boring settings where things don't make sense and players run roughshod through everything. Thinking about how magic items change society makes for more developed and unique settings.

    D&D 5E (2024) Adjusting Difficulty

Hi everybody! I often see people say that 5E is too easy, so I wanted to share a little system I made back while running a long 5E game. For reference, each adventuring day in game tended to have 3 deadly fights with a short rest in between, but sometimes I'd swap 1 deadly fight for 2 hards or...

D&D 5E (2024) New DMG Encounter Building Math vs 2014

Ok, that means I can continue using the 2014 guidelines, using the multipliers and the medium, hard, and deadly marks as my metrics. They've worked well for me. 2 CR 2s is a harder fight than 1 CR 2 back to back with another CR 2. The lack of a multiplier doesn't acknowledge that. I kind of...

    D&D General 2024 Monster Creation

Seems like you'll want something like 4E. 1 monster per PC of equal level is a standard fight. Since the 4 players vs copies of themselves should, by its nature, be very deadly, a monster of level X would need to be weaker than a PC of level X. Then you have elite monsters that have twice the...

Scions of Elemental Evil Released on D&D Beyond

I'm finding I'm missing needing adamantine, cold iron, and silver weapons for some creatures.

Dungeons & Dragons Has Done Away With the Adventuring Day

I did a campaign from 3rd to 12th and found that 3 deadly encounters a day, with short rests between, with my own level adjustments for how many magic items the players had, felt challenging and no one died. Deadly wasn't deadly, it was just hard.

Dungeons & Dragons Has Done Away With the Adventuring Day

I'm not seeing anything so far either.

Dungeons & Dragons Has Done Away With the Adventuring Day

Gonna have to do a lot of reading, but I'm going to find it unusual if there aren't at least recommendations for allowing for an average of 2 short rests a day at the very least.

D&D General Normal Distribution Ability Scores

I've been wanting to go through the whole PHB and adjust the saves to be more balanced. What would you recommend for each?

D&D General Normal Distribution Ability Scores

Coming back to this discussion, I'm once again wondering what would happen if offense was stripped from the ability scores and ability scores were only used for skill checks, saves, and prerequisites. Offenses like attack, damage, and saves could use level and proficiency. A level 10 Fighter has...

D&D General Dnd artwork i made, enjoy!

Oh wow! I love your use of color. What are your inspirations? Do you do a more painterly process for colors or do you use a different technique?

D&D General wait what is arcane magic anyway?

Oofta has it right, I think. Magic is magic. Some are born with it, for others it's Maybelline. Personally, I think some magic is closer to the source, the divine words of creation, which is why some can heal and others can't. Other magic is closer to the primordial roots of the world, and is...

D&D 5E (2024) Table of Contents for Dungeon Masters Guide Leaked

I love world building. 3E's Manual of the Planes and Deities and Demigods were my favorite books. While there are tons of great world building supplements out there, an official D&D one could be nice for exposing more people to it.

    D&D 5E (2024) Treantmonk's Warlock EB DPR video

I DMed for a game with a Warlock from 3rd to 12th levels. She mainly used Hex and Eldritch Blast for offense, keeping her other slots for counter spell, blink, Misty Step, and the occasional hellish rebuke. The Battle Master Fighter outshined her in damage, but her ability to shut down enemy...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E economics -The Peasants are revolting!

Regarding trained vs untrained hirelings: who is an untrained hireling? Do NPCs not get background tool proficiencies? Shouldn't every adult be trained in some tool or useful skill? Or is that it, untrained is level 0, hasn't even gotten their background yet?
