    A wizard should feel like...

This was discussed a while back. It was a goof. Howndawg

    Double Weapons: Scrap or keep?

Perhaps there could be variant equipment lists, like in 2e. That way, DM's who want their games more grounded in realism could go with one list, and those who want their games to be a bit more silly could go with another. BTW, while we're on the subject of weapons, I think every 4e designer...

[Rampant Speculation] The First New "Power Sources"

A possible alternative to "nature" would be "primal"; the character taps into his wild side. Barbarians would fit into this mode, and possibly druids. Another possibility would be "spirit", for characters like witches and sha'ir. I like psionics, ki, steamtech, and chaos. Howndawg

    Slow Changes (Just theoreterizin...)

I strongly doubt it. One of the advantages to a class system is that it gives players an immediate concept they can grab hold of and say "Gee, I want to play that". They make it easy for new players to jump into the game. Which is one of the reasons D&D has been the #1 game for over 30 years...

    What will classes be like?

There has been a lot of speculation about what classes will make the PHB cut and what power source/role they would play. But there has not been much speculation about exactly what about each class will make it unique. It has been mentioned that fighters are weapon based, rogues are skill...

D&D 4E Is 4E winning you or losing you?

After playing and DMing 3e for a few years, I came to the realization that the target audience for 3e did not include me. Granted, I like most of what they've done in 3e, but the style of game I prefer is not what 3e offered. From what I've seen of 4e, WotC looks to be moving the game in a...

    Warlock confirmed in PH1...

There is going to be a ranger, along with a barbarian, bard, druid, monk, paladin, and sorcerer. It has been confirmed that all of the 3.5 PHB classes will make it into 4e. However, only the cleric, fighter, rogue, and wizard have definitely been confirmed for the PHB. Howndawg

    Elemental Planes Killed

City of Brass, like in the picture on the cover of the original DMG with the trio of adventurers fighting an efreet? Now that is my idea of an extraplanar adventure and I hope what they want to achieve with a reimagining of the planes. Howndawg

    Warlock confirmed in PH1...

This scheme would pan out to be: Defender: Fighter (M), Paladin (D) Striker: Rogue (M), Warlock (A) Controller: Wizard (A), Druid (D) Leader: Cleric (D), Warlord (M) Two of each role, 2 arcane, 3 divine, and 3 martial. Looks pretty good. I originally thought something similar only with the...

Alright WotC, fess up...who came up with "Emerald Frost"?

Probably the same person who came up with "extreme shield" in Races of Stone. I love that book, but I'm sorry, extreme shield is just so unfantasy. Howndawg

    New Design: Wizards...

I think one can argue either way. On the one hand, a list of deities can be seen as straightjacketing. On the other hand, it can give a player a good starting point with which he can build a character. Howndawg

Gnomes - Where will they appear first?

Methinks they will do a book called "Tomes and Gnomes" :) Actually, I'd lay odds on them doing splatbooks for arcane, divine, and martial characters. I'd hazard a guess that the arcane book will have rules for arcane themed races like gnomes alongside arcane classes like the bard and the...

Dave Noonan Responds about Wizard Implements

Imagine Topal as Tevye singing "Tradition.....Tradition. TRADITION.......Tradition". Howndawg
  14. Howndawg

Which implementation of wizards' implements do you prefer?

My guess is that traditions are to wizards llike gods are to clerics. The PH will give a few examples but if you don't like them, you can make up your own. As for tools, Bruce mentioned that orbs, staves, and wands are simply the most well known. I'd lay odds that tomes and possibly others...

Humans as the most common race?

Interesting because in groups I played in dwarves were the most popular race after humans! After that half-orcs and then believe it or not gnomes. :) Howndawg

What Should Be Done With Psionics?

I think when one has to take a look at psionics in the game, one needs to take a trip on the Wayback Machine, back to the state of SF&F literature back in the 70's. Back then, reprints of old authors was quite common as there was not as much new fantasy fiction being written back then as there...

So, the DM Wants His Girlfriend to Play....

Amen! I once played in a group where the DM let his GF cheat like crazy, yet cracked down on the rest of us for doing little things that most DM's would totally ignore. I left that group for the local Champions group. Howndawg

I hope stat generation is addressed

When I play, I like control over my stats, and when I'm DM, I let the players have a degree of control. That's why I like point buy. Frankly, I think characters with uber high stats are boring. Its fun playing characters with flaws. Its also fun if characters have different high stats and...

Will you be buying the 'Wizards Presents' previews?

Although I know every bit of useful information in those books will be all over EN World about two hours after they hit the shelves, I will buy those books simply because I just absolutely have to have them in my grubby little paws. Howndawg

    Arcane Spell Failure

I would agree. I would like to see it go. In part because I'd like to see someone play a big fat wizard with a DEX of 8. Howndawg
