    support for variable magic levels

In older editions, where characters generally couldn't buy magic items, they generally tended to sink their hard earned gold into mounts, ships, castles, and bribing their way out of jail. Now it seems everyone just buys the biggest baddest magic items in the shop, and nobody wants to improve...

    D&D 4E Familiars in 4E

Keep them, but as either a feat or a talent. Possibly a talent tree; e.g. the more talents a wizard sinks into his familiar, the more powerful it is. But if he doesn't want a familiar, he can take another talent. Howndawg

    Plans to upgrade/switch?

From what I've read about 4e, it seems more suited to my style of gaming than 3.x is, which despite having generally the best set of D&D rules out there caters to a style of gaming I really do not like. Therefore, I will go over to 4e. Howndawg

    Classes.. confirmed?

Those five plus the wizard are the only ones that seem to be definite. Barbarian, druid, and sorcerer seem fuzzy; bard and monk seem dead for the PHB; and the Warlord, new base class, PrC, or something else? Howndawg

    the "truth" about classes

Exotic armor prof first appeared in Hammer and Helm by Green Ronin. It later appeared in Races of Stone. Not surprising since Jesse Decker wrote H+H and contributed to RoS. Howndawg

Which campaign setting(s) should be supported?

I'd definitely agree. I'm much more likely to check something out if I knew I only had to buy a couple of books to get everything. Howndawg

    Target Demographic?

One thing I see with some of the design decisions which are being bandied about is it seems they are trying to bring back some of the older gamers who were turned off by some of the design decisions made in third. Talk about bringing back old campaign settings like Planescape and Dark Sun...

New "which 8 classes are in PHB" speculation thread

One thing we don't know is whether any of the classes mentioned are slated for a release after the PHB. I would not be surprised to see one or two classes that are being bandied about cut from the PHB and popping up in a later supplement. Howndawg

    Prestige Classes gone?

I have no problem with PrC's in general but I don't want to see 10,000 of them and I don't want to see PrC's based on cool powers and not character concepts. Assassins, Blackguards, and Cavaliers are okay. Frozen Hand Monks and Butterfly Paladins are not. Neither do I want five warrior mages...

    PH II Speculation

You knew this topic had to occur sooner of later :) . I think ki/chi would be an interesting alternative power source. Imagine monks getting a bit of flexibility, wuxia dudes mixed in with Iron Fist guys. Ouch. Howndawg

    D&D 4E 4e Wish List?

I like most of what you said except for number 24. I like having STR as the ability which affects melee combat. Too many other RPG's have made DEX the ability which affects melee combat. That might seem more realistic, but it tends to turn DEX into an uberstat. I don't know if you are...

D&D 4E Has the 4E Announcement Changed Your Buying Plans?

It's going to have a dire effect on my non-D&D spending. The only gaming products I'm planning on buying are 360 games and a few FFG boardgames. I was planning on buying more RQ stuff and the new Traveller, but with 4e coming out I just can't get excited about other RPG's right now. Howndawg

D&D 4E What does your dream 4e Monster Manual contain?

Buy RQ Monsters, cut out the appropriate pictures and paste them in your MM! But seriously, I've seen a lot of good ideas here. I'd like to see: More fair folk (brownies, leprechauns, etc) Weirds that look like snakes instead of women Yak men Howndawg

    Rodney Thompson on Magic Items

The part that has now officially won me over to 4e was the statement that magic items are not going to be required to be competitive at high levels. If there was one thing I detested about 3e was the encouragement to hand out magic items at a specific rate. I come from the old school which...

Why does a published setting need "support"?

A very intriguing question. I think it all depends on the setting and how it's published. I think if the core setting book is fairly complete in and of itself, then it can do just fine without support. However, if there are gaping holes which need to be addressed, then support is necessary...
