Does a worn Holy Symbol take up an Item Slot?

I agree with the ruling, epochrpg, but not with your elevating the character builder to a rules source. Software always has bugs; the bugs in the character builder are not rules.

Has it really been 30 years?

Wow--it's funny that I didn't think of that. But my 40th birthday last month was also my 30th gamer anniversary. Talked an uncle into getting the 'Blue Box' basic D&D set for me for my 10th birthday after seeing an ad in Games magazine for it. My parents were thrilled. :D Many happy returns, Baz!

Is Entangle supposed to be limited by the available vegetation?

No perhaps about it, as under the 'Chekov's gun' principle, there's only one reason such a spell would exist, narratively speaking. You absolutely don't want to find yourself in this situation ... Wizard: "Meh. It's not worth the 700 GP to scribe that stupid spell on a scroll. I mean really...

    Rage/Frenzy

Just for a counterpoint--I played in a party with a frenzied berserker and had a blast ... The player had a very interesting personality and background that both made the character enjoyable to interact with and reasonably justified the other characters' willingness to keep him in the party. So...

Battle Graph -- in my hands

So--denatured alcohol is the secret cleaning ingredient, eh? ;) Can't say I'm shocked--after experimenting on the battle board I use, that was the best cleaner I'd found for dry-erase marker residue. OK, time to go camp out by my mailbox now. (Haven't been by the website in a while, so I didn't...

How much do characters know about game mechanics?

I'm happily inconsistent when it comes to fantasy games. There may well be martial powers where it could make sense to say that the character needs to rest for five minutes or overnight before he has the physical or mental energy to pull off the move again. There could be arcane encounter powers...

How much do characters know about game mechanics?

No. The player can, but not the character. That's right. Only the players can use those tactics. OK, that's too strong. I would probably alter my mental model based on the class & power source. A wizard or warlock may just need to rest five minutes before he can recharge her arcane batteries...

No kidding! Was that the best knock-knock joke ever, or what? :D

    Punisher of the Gods ?

What is Punisher of the Gods? (OK, I gather it's an epic destiny, but I couldn't have guessed that from the original post.) What book/magazine issue is it from? What do you think is borked about it? If you include the answers to questions like these when you ask the question, you have a much...

    The Ungrindables

The one fight I ran with an ettin got a bit grindy at the end, but the players are still learning 4E, and when we did post-fight analysis, they found some issues with their tactics that probably contributed. (A poorly thought-out use of a daily power, and a failure to recognize the weak defenses...

    PCs entering a room question

Actually, immediate reactions can interrupt movement. PHB pg. 268: "The triggering action, event, or condition occurs and is completely resolved before you take your reaction, except that you can interrupt a creature's movement. If a creature triggers your immediate reaction while moving ... you...

    Intelligence drops -- spells lost?

Wildshaping druids with periapts of wisdom are organizing to lobby against this ruling ... ;)

    OotS #643

:D I get timeouts a lot, too. But now I'm getting totally nothing. Not a slow response, or a server to busy, but my browser can't even ID the domain.

    Figuring Out Critical Hit Damage

AHA!! I've been wondering ever since AV came out, what the difference is between Brutal 2 and just using the next lower damage die with a +2. I.e. a weapon doing 1d8 with Brutal 2 does 3-8 points of damage on a linear curve, same as 1d6+2, so why not just say it does 1d6+2? This is why. (Don't...

    Simple but significant movement clarification

Honestly, it's not that hard. You can virtually always draw your walls in such a way that the fractional hexes necessitated by your 90-degree wall meetings are all either much less or much more than half a hex. That leaves very few corner cases (heh!) to have to deal with.

    Battlegraph dry erase Boards!

Worked for me, using Firefox 3.0.8 with the Shockwave Flash 10.0 r22 plugin ... I know I had issues before with Adobe plugins in general; I don't think it prompts you for needed upgrades on these, it's up to the user to keep them up-to-date. I got this & the Acrobat reader plug-in updated...

math analysis of DMG loot guidelines for starting PCs above level 1

Another thing to keep in mind is that organically leveled characters will have acquired low-level permanent items, many of which they will have sold or ritually converted to residuum at 1/5 value. If you give a starting 18th-level character full treasure value of what a character would acquire...

Opposed Skill Roll disparity over Levels

Well, regardless of how actual MM stats are done, your argument is wrong. You said: But by the guidelines you quoted above, it would only be +7 or +8 for ability increase; it's +15 to the stat (or to half of the stats, as that's only for the higher score of an ability pair), but the bonus from...
