    D&D 5E (2014) Warlording the fighter

Please don't ignore the thread entirely. Everybody's comments are helpful, and I'd very much like your opinion/feedback on the designs I'm working on, when I finally get them to a form worthy of posting. While his comment was inappropriate, he's stated numerous times that he's not a designer...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlording the fighter

While will to live is distinctly listed as a part of Hit Points according to 5E's definition, it's only a part. Redefining Hit Points, or specifically 0 Hit Points, as strictly the point when an individual gives up fighting (loses their will to live), is doing exactly that which Kamikaze and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlording the fighter

While true, should has never been good enough for me. I think shooting for a design that has as many coherent interpretations as possible, for as many different types of D&D fans as possible, is one that has the highest chance of success. It may be more difficult, but I think it's worth the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlording the fighter

Command Aura/Relentless Rage/Relentless Endurance - Frankly, IMO, these simply don't accomplish what a Warlord does - whether compared with the previous edition, narratively, or real-life. Just look at how inconsistent these are with the Terminator example. Not too mention that for something...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlording the fighter

First, a Warlord doesn't heal anybody; the Warlord's words initiate a response where someone essentially heals them self - allows their body to regain homeostasis. The Warlord is just the initiator and catalyst, not the one doing the healing. Please read this...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlording the fighter

True. Good Point. You're probably right. I don't play adventurer's league, and I'm not interested in it (it's never been my thing - same with RPGA); so an official Warlord isn't a big deal for me. I'd be happy with a UA treatment, but for those who do play AL and are fans of the Warlord...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlording the fighter

I do not have disdain for temporary hit points - whether apparent or otherwise. And my compromise wasn't Temporary Hit Points, it was, for lack of a better term, Volatile Hit Points - Hit Points that may or may not be permanent, based on a dice roll. You really need to stop making...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlording the fighter

For the most part, I believe you and I are on the same side of this debate, but I disagree with the perception you express here. I've touched on this before, but I think it keeps getting lost in the mix. I agree completely that "healing is about recovery", but I disagree that Warlords don't...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlording the fighter

Wow! Okay... Not saying that I agree with Kamikaze - I don't - but if one is going to attempt to highlight somebody else's faulty logic, it's probably best to not utilize logical fallacies while doing so. Specifically: I must assume you either did not study in college, or else forgot. -...

    Crtitique my Pharmacist?

As a matter of flavor, I think Apothecary would be a better name. IMO, Pharmacist sounds too modern for the genre.

Good point about Expertise. Then yes, stack with applicable skills/proficiencies they may already have - when the DM agrees there is synergy with Leadership (though guidance can be supplied in the feature description or in a sidebar). Then also, I'm thinking they can either do the same for...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlording the fighter

Very true. Overlap. Not stack or replace. Very Nice. I like this, but I don't want to go the route of adding extra bonuses if one already has them. 5E is definitely designed to avoid stacking. Most definitely.

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlording the fighter

IMO, Command is just a part of Leadership. And Leadership would use Charisma or Wisdom. IRL, Leadership is most supported by emotional intelligence/social intelligence and empathy (interpersonal and intrapersonal). In other words, depending on the situation: strength of personality...

Humor, however, always has a place in friendly, respectful discussion. That was pretty good.

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlording the fighter

Pejorative is most certainly not open minded. Pejorative is disparaging and marginalizing...dis-respectful and rude. Rhetorically, it's an attempt to further one's argument by attacking the credibility of a premise (ethos), rather than addressing the logic of a premise (logos). It has no...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlording the fighter

A Warlord is first and foremost, a Leader. A Leader does not need to be an expert in the skills of their people, they just need to be expert in reading and motivating people. On a battlefield/in combat, "yelling" most certainly has its place. Though even there it's not always the right tool...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlording the fighter

You're missing the relevant portion. Yes, it's magic. Yes, it magically cures wounds. It also narratively limits itself to only curing wounds - not mental durability, will to live, and luck - yet it cures all hit points indiscriminately, in contravention of its own narrative. I'm being told...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlording the fighter

I haven't said that either. I'm not going to answer a loaded question, or be locked in to a level of healing before I actually get to that part of designing the class. I'll just leave it at: I don't advocate for full healing, especially as some of that hit point loss is actual physical wounds...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlording the fighter

What about Cure Wounds. By its title it narratively designates Wounds - Physical Durability/Injury - yet indiscriminately heals all hit points. Now one can make the argument, as I believe you've intimated at also, that physical healing will have an impact on mental states. And I agree with...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlording the fighter

The incorrect portion here is all of those things at once. The RAW simply says a combination. To be accurate, it supports both "all at once" and "individual occurrences of these things taken as a whole." You can personally interpret it any way you want in your games, but your interpretation...
