    D&D 5E (2014) Warlording the fighter

Wow! There is just no pleasing some people. In thread after thread there just seems to be a lot of complaining about what 5E doesn't have. When ideas are floated they're all bad. No compromise is acceptable at all, working within the system is intolerable, and the one's complaining don't...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlording the fighter

So, this is what I see so far concerning "Warlording" a Fighter: Within the constraints of 5E (a system without an extensive "Powers" mechanic), a 5E Warlord would not be able to have as many options for any given build as a 4E Warlord would. The best approach for a Warlord is as a Fighter...

    D&D 5E (2014) Doubling Up Advantage/Disadvantage

Stacking advantage or disadvantage does increase (or decrease) the chances of the desired (or undesired) result; but the increase is not cumulative...it's a little less with each additional D20. It's kind of like walking towards a wall, but only walking half-way every time. You'll keep getting...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is "Mystic" a bad class name?

Psionics/Psion is a modern term, coined in 1956, by John W. Campbell Jr. for the February issue of his Astounding Science Fiction magazine. It was an expansion of an earlier term, psi, coined by the science fiction authors B.P. Wiesner and Robert H. Thouless in 1942. Psychic is a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Psionics relates to Ki

Many roads leading to the same place. Many beliefs and philosophies leading to understanding of the same universe. "You're going to find that many of the truths we cling to, depend greatly on our own point of view." - Obi Wan Kenobi

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlording the fighter

Why would "outside of his origin story" matter? It's part of who he is. In his origin story he displays arcane knowledge (items, potions, etc.), spellcasting, using rituals, and even necromancy. All of which would not simply be covered by a feat. At a minimum it would require one level of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlording the fighter

Your context seems to imply that the Mouser was just a martial character. He was not. At a minimum he's a Rogue with one level of Wizard, and most definitely cast spells and used rituals. While I'm with you that 5E does not have a single build that decently fulfills the role of a Warlord...

    D&D 5E (2014) Psionics relates to Ki

I've always seen Psionics as cognate with Eastern Mysticism (Hindu and Bhudist beliefs - Yogis or Siddhas in Hindu). Psionics is a word coined in 1956 by John W. Campbell Jr. for the February issue of his Astounding Science Fiction magazine. Psychic is also a relatively modern term (mid...

    D&D 5E (2014) Some things I don't care for in the D&D culture

I don't mind, though I'm only going to answer this once. This is my opinion, and therefore not up for debate. If you want to know merely out of curiosity, then read on. If you want to know in order to argue that my preferences are somehow wrong, then just move along...and don't even bother...

    D&D 5E (2014) Some things I don't care for in the D&D culture

First, I'm not advocating that D&D needs to change or fix this; so I'm not sure where that came from. Second, I think it's a false conclusion to say that those conceits are what made D&D famous. As I said (and Lanefan said) those conceits were there to one degree or another from the very start...

D&D 5E (2014) How many gamers ACTUALLY play in AL?

It's called False-consensus bias. It's the assumption that everyone's experiences must be the same as theirs. They are wrong. And now I will commence with contributing my anecdotal evidence that proves why they are wrong...:o:p I've been gaming since 1994. Longer than some, shorter than...

    D&D 5E (2014) Some things I don't care for in the D&D culture

The thing I like the least in the D&D culture, is the baked in conceits of the game. Rather than the game being designed to be as generic as possible, it hard-coded many mechanics and assumptions into the game that are specifically not generic (vancian casting to name one, along with...

    D&D 5E (2014) [+] What are your favorite things about 5e?

My favorite things about 5E. General: Simplicity (easy to play, easy to understand, easy to run) Flexibility (easy to modify/houserule...even on the fly) Enabling of multiple play styles and stories (Finally! A D&D for Everybody!) Fast Play (Players don't get Bored!) Easy scaling of...

D&D 5E (2014) Theatre of the Mind or Miniatures?

I use both. I can't honestly say which one I use more. I simply use whichever one works best at the time. We almost always have the miniatures on a game mat as a general representation of relative position. Sometimes there's the need to "zoom in" and use all the miniature movement/scaling...

D&D 5E (2014) What to do with players that always roll well

Cast Raise Dead Spell (it's only been 7 days of the 10 day limit...and I did use a 500GP diamond...but it was consumed during the casting so you'll just have to take my word for it;)...) Lord Vangarel I just read this story at Business Insider...

Head transplant - wait - what?

Not to be pedantic, but wouldn't this more accurately be described as a Body Transplant and not a Head Transplant?

Resident Evil 4 was programmed to Fudge

Resident Evil 4 was programmed to Fudge. It had an adaptive difficulty level that varied based on the actions of the player in order to maintain an optimal game experience - much like a Fudging DM. This sliding difficulty scale helped make Resident Evil 4 one of the most popular video games...

    Sage Advice (18 May 2015)

In my games, weapons do add to defense. There's also a defense roll. All based on what I interpret as the intention behind Disengage, the conceit that Disengage informs.
