Whether they "get off the horse at some point" or not, a Cavalier still needs to be an expert in mounted combat. Conversely, a Warlord does not need to be an expert in mounted combat in order to fulfill the concept. The etymology of Cavalier is "Horseman" and cognate with "Cavalry" - it...

For those who haven't read the proposed concept in the Warlording the Fighter thread, here they are. Though remember that these were early rough drafts that are being revised based on the feedback that was received. If anyone wants to give feedback on these, or any of the other proposed ideas...

Or just change "they lead from the front of most fights" to "they lead from behind their keyboards.";)

Well, isn't that a clever little bit of circular logic and well camouflaged false authority and dogmatism. My compliments. You've said before that the Warlord was really only a fleshed-out concept in 4E - so since the Warlord is only a 4E concept (according to you), and a 5E Warlord doesn't...

D&D 5E (2014) Monster errata: Drow with magic armor variant

Nope. I think you're right: it's probably a mistake. Whoever wrote the entry may have simply taken the AC for a Drow Elite Warrior and just added +1 for the magic chain shirt. However, chain shirt limits Dex to +2, so even if they did use a Drow Elite Warrior, the AC should still only be 16...

I agree. ...or just effective healing - as I've presented before. If the effects of wounds are mitigated, then the Hit Points are restored even if the wounds themselves (cuts, bruises, etc.) still persist. That's not temporary Hit Points; those are real, physical, Hit Points. Doesn't work...

D&D 5E (2014) Open Interpretation Inspirational Healing Compromise.

That's cool. For design purposes though, I'm just trying to keep my mind open to different approaches. I'm doing that to try and keep the process itself above reproach (claims of bias), and to avoid making my own ideas paramount over others. I want to keep it informed by the collective...

D&D 5E (2014) Open Interpretation Inspirational Healing Compromise.

I partly agree. Yes, a 5E Warlord can't be constrained by 4E definitions and mechanics, but it must fulfill the concept. I believe fulfilling that concept can be done within 5E's paradigm, but it is one reason for the difficulty I've found in crafting a 5E version. It's difficult, but it's...

D&D 5E (2014) Could a Mind Flayer (Illithid) devour another Mind Flayer's brain...?

I'm with Azurewraith. I'm thinking it's possible for them to feed on eachother, but it's likely a societal taboo. Probably for species survival, like Azurewraith said, but maybe there's also other considerations. Maybe a Mindflayer feeding on another Mindflayer brain can lead to some sort of...

D&D 5E (2014) Open Interpretation Inspirational Healing Compromise.

The description of Inspirational Hit Point Recovery in a potential class doesn't need to say one way or the other if it's magical or not. It simply remains silent on it. Simply describe the Warlord as using vocal exhortation and/or shaking, and that's it. Any implication of whether it's...

    D&D 5E (2014) How many fans want a 5E Warlord?

Nothing in the rules implies that < 50% hp you're suffering only wounds. The only thing that comes close is a sidebar that's presented as one of many different ways to narrate damage. It even starts with "Dungeon Masters describe hit point loss in different ways." It's guidance - advice -...

    D&D 5E (2014) 4d6 Drop the Lowest Etiquette

The first 2 for each set of four dice (4d6). So, roll 4d6 - if two of them came up 2, reroll one of them only. Next set of 4d6 (next ability score), same thing. Sorry about ruining your dice roller program...;)

Nope. Roll them all, then assign them where you want.

D&D 5E (2014) What is your current way to roll stats

Interesting. I like that. I'm going to have to save that for potential future use. In my games, I use choice of standard array or roll. If you roll, you use what you get - no switching to standard array if you get a bad result. It's a roleplaying opportunity - use it. If they get a really...

    D&D 5E (2014) 4d6 Drop the Lowest Etiquette

I use choice of standard array or roll. If you roll, you use what you get - no switching to standard array if you get a bad result. It's a roleplaying opportunity - use it. If they get a really high set of scores, I have no problem with it. They're not going to break my game. For rolling, I...
