D&D 5E (2014) We're Getting Old - and is WotC Accounting For That?

In the case of the rogue party, design with the ability to set each other up for sneak attacks, shenanigans, etc. Sure, he could just flank with the Fighter, but there's only one Fighter to flank with. Be able to do things like stab and draw his attention as you step/shift a "space" away...

D&D 5E (2014) We're Getting Old - and is WotC Accounting For That?

I want the best game in the medieval sword & sorcery-ish theme. The sacred cows not only hold back design but which particular ones are important is so inconsistent from gamer-to-gamer that "what's D&D?" is rather meaningless overall. It's like trying to define "what is music" to a disparate...

    D&D 5E (2014) Whats your dealbreaker for 5E?

If the party is well-built, Daze and Stun aren't much of an issue. That tells me the party wasn't put together very well. Any Barbarian who is not intentionally designed poorly really shouldn't care one lick if he's Dazed, especially if he's around an even half-way decent defender. Just...

D&D 5E (2014) We're Getting Old - and is WotC Accounting For That?

Heck, I even have a few silly "deal breakers". I want use of the full, standard set of polyhedral dice (I'd even like it if there was a use for percentiles soemwhere, if possible), character sheets and the majority of focus pre-Industrial revolution and gunpowder. I have nothing against...

D&D 5E (2014) We're Getting Old - and is WotC Accounting For That?

Wrong. I've played every edition. I want a great game, regardless of how many sacred hamburgers have to be served. But we see over and over again threads about "deal breakers", "not in MY D&D", "That's not (how I see) traditional D&D", "DISASSOCIATIVE!", etc. and those are major hinderences to...

D&D 5E (2014) We're Getting Old - and is WotC Accounting For That?

The best term isn't grognard, it's baggage. The same, wrong-headed arguments come out every time they make a new edition, TSR or WotC. That makes it extremely difficult to make the best game possible to draw new players when such a big chunk of the customer base is at opposition with it.

D&D 5E (2014) We're Getting Old - and is WotC Accounting For That?

...and even further proof, thanks. WotC's issue isn't that the player base is getting older, their issue is that the grognards aren't getting older fast enough.

D&D 5E (2014) We're Getting Old - and is WotC Accounting For That?

And this thread pretty much sums up why they should ignore current gamers. It's not age, it's obsitnance. All the passive-aggressive edition war garbage so thinly veiled in this thread alone makes one wonder why the design crew should care one lick what this "community" wants. In a perfect...

    Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

It's fluffy, teen-friendly, and fairly shallow but it's fun enough.

D&D 5E (2014) What are/will be the main beefs of D&D Next relative to other editions?

We'll see what happens with the final product.

    50th Aniversary Trailer

I love all the bits and pieces from throughout the series mixed in. You could play a whole game of 'find ____ Doctor's sonic screwdriver'.

Serious question - are you going to invest in D&DNext?

If they fulfill some of the potential in the final product I will probably pick it up. If not, then no. I have four other long-running campaigns I'm part of already and the spiffy-looking 13th Age on my shelf waiting to be taken out for a spin.

Designing Boss Fight - Succubus (Help Appreciated)

I may also change up the succubus "dominate" power to make the actual battle with her more dynamic. Rather than making it an on-turn attack, maybe let it be an immediate interrupt when she's attacked so either the attack is re-directed or if noone is within range of the attacker then it charges...

    D&D 5E (2014) Will I like D&D Next?

Which seems odd because every 4E campaign I'm part of (starting at level 1) is at least level 15 and over three years (and still going). My 3E campaign ended at 12th because the casters were overshadowing the non-casters and I got tired of designing monsters all day just to have them fail saves...

    Incorrect number of Doctors?

    Or Troughton to Pertwee.

    D&D 5E (2014) Will I like D&D Next?

Sheesh, that seems ungodly short. I would not have thought a majority of campaigns lasted so little time when tehre's so much game available.

    D&D 5E (2014) Will I like D&D Next?

A 12-session campaign? Do you level every session? IME 12 sessions is 4-6 levels, tops.

    Incorrect number of Doctors?

Well, there was a David Tennant regeneration where he used enough energy to heal but then channeled the rest of the energy in to his hand (which then spawned a separate, half-human doctor when Donna's DNA corrupted the "cloning". Then there's Matt Smith's Doctor re-booting the entire universe...

    D&D 5E (2014) Will I like D&D Next?

A nine-month full campaign? Almost every campaign I've ever been a part of lasts multiple years, not months, even in college when we played weekly with marathon sessions fairly often.

    D&D 5E (2014) Will I like D&D Next?

"Trying it" is cool, but the OP talked of setting up a campaign starting around January, which likely means a boatload of revisions a few levels in. Also, what makes you think the final packet is what will be released on a number of things? Look at the fighter and it's abilities. Will it end...
