    D&D 5E (2014) Martials v Casters...I still don't *get* it.

Why on earth would that be a resource the champion has when a warlock is out of spell slots? This is why exhibition matches are stupid. You can keep asking, but I won't participate.

Some recommended Warlock builds would have been a good idea, and probably more important for many readers than recommended Battlemaster builds, given how many more choices there are.

D&D 5E (2014) Magic Jar: is it a pc spell?(update 2, the continuing saga - how it's working for my character)

If you send the chest to the ethereal plane and die in your stolen body, your original body is more than 100 feet away, so you are real dead.

Assuming you mean foresight, it's much more than that. Advantage on nearly everything including out of combat ability checks, saving throws, and attacks, and thus a concentration slot free to use on something else if the caster was using it for advantage in combat (Shadow of Moil, Greater...

foresight, force cage, dimension door/teleport, simulacrum, greater invisibility, banishment etcetera? Of that short list, 4 choices don't require concentration. This entire discussion assumes all parties understand how 5e works, and that concentration is a limitation. I regularly have...

    D&D 5E (2014) Martials v Casters...I still don't *get* it.

I agree, I miss building for bastard swords. It's dumb that dueling stops working if you put your second hand on a versatile weapon. 1d10 versatile weapons would still be behind 2d6 heavy weapons with GWF in this case. I guess they just figured that they worked with one style half the time and...

Yep, it's stupid that a GWF paladin is just as good at that as a GWF fighter until level 6 and beyond; giving fighters some of other styles actually would be nice for some versatility. Sure, some sword and board types will take both dueling and defense. So what?

    D&D 5E (2014) Martials v Casters...I still don't *get* it.

I've swapped them, but it was partly because I wanted defense from 1-4 and partly that blindfighting wasn't out yet. I still don't know how it is possible for my fighter to carry the number of javelins and spears and handaxes he does. Come to think of it, I don't see a problem with giving...

It was far better in UA when you could swap them on a long rest. Still wasn't letting you change from conan to legolas, but it was actually useful that way. In fact, you could give a fighter all their original fighting styles at level 1 and it still wouldn't change a ton about specialization...

Well, you can change them out now, at least, but not at the drop of a hat, and that won't change out your base attribute to match. You pretty much have to decide Maul vs Bows right at character creation. Meanwhile that hexblade that is nipping at your heels can wiggle his fingers and pew pew...

They must have waxed nostalgic about 3e. You could, I suppose, skip GWM/PAM/SS/XBE, but you'll still be heavily invested in dex or str, and take spells or maneuvers and most certainly collect gear around that. Your damage will be pretty bad, though. Javelins are great... until you have two...

    D&D 5E (2014) Martials v Casters...I still don't *get* it.

If you built for strength, that is. Maneuvers that are not all created equal. There are probably 2-3 that are really important for a particular combat style (GWM, SS, sword and board) and the rest you could just toss. Some of them are distinctly bad. What's more, they don't scale much. Trip is...

They don't even exist. Warlocks sort of are. Sorcerers used to be (in 3e - no prepared slots. Spontaneous casting was simplicity then), but a vocal group of players got attached to the class and get very upset that they were not better wizards, so we have what we have now. The warlock has been...

    D&D 5E (2014) Martials v Casters...I still don't *get* it.

Yep. After level 3 or so, barring special cases of battlemasters (who probably pick their three favorite choices then anyway) and eldritch knights, their list of Actions to take does not change very much from 3-17. Sometimes they get to take two of them, and they maybe have some items that make...

Which is precisely why engaging in a forum thread exhibition match is a fool's errand.

Just because you think it is wrong doesn't mean it isn't there. If it is so clear cut, demonstrate caster inferiority - bring a preponderance of evidence.

Yep, if you go back to some of the source material death was far more certain. Of course, wizards also tended to only be able to memorize 4-5 spells, magical items expired after use, etc.

You don't need to engage claims that run counter to the prevailing opinion on their terms. In much the same way I don't need to break out the astrolabe and ruler to demonstrate a flat earther is incorrect. The position that casters are weaker than martials in 5e is not the prevailing one, so...

    D&D 5E (2014) Martials v Casters...I still don't *get* it.

Teleport isn't nearly what it was in previous editions - and that's good, it was brokenly bad in 3e, and only 5th level. The immune to death thing is system wide - death doesn't come as easily as 2e, that's for sure.

Which I really don't think would be that hard - though they'd probably need some form of either magic resistance or personal anti-magic. Not unlike Psychic Blanks in 40k.
