    D&D 5E (2014) Class bloat without multiclassing?

For 5e this this seems a pretty hypothetical topic. Coming up on 3 years and still no new classes.

    D&D 5E (2014) Dex Based Melee Concept?

So the fighter is dex? What kind of AC is he running, and is he the tank? If this is a tankless group, I can tell you from experience that it will be challenging at times.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E classes that discourage "dipping"

Personally I just ignore the all the negative connotation of "dipping" and just look at the options with fresh eyes, and I keep in mind what I want to play, and not what someone or something else thinks I should play for a given role. Sorta - "there is no spoon".

Future of the current Adventure League

Good point. I don't think this whole issue is actually much of a concern by players in practice. Not that I've seen anyways. Certain niche views tend to be over-represented on this forum a lot.

Future of the current Adventure League

I think, if anything, AL is getting better. The DM quests is working as intended, and I'm glad they get rewarded for all the extra prep and responsibility they take on. Only thing I wish would stop is the snowballing restriction list on magic item trading. The other nice benefit of DM xp is that...

D&D 5E (2014) Share Your Meanest, Most Dastardly Trap

A room full of flammable alcohol and a party member dumb enough to cast a fire spell.

    D&D 5E (2014) Fist of Unbroken Air ... broken?

One thing to note is that if you stun them first, they auto-fail strength saves. Of course that's over 2 turns then.

Future of the current Adventure League

I'm just glad that they are starting to publish T4 content. For a time it sounded like they weren't going to do any at all.

D&D 5E (2014) Some slightly fiddly combat rules questions

Agreed. I've played with many DMs, and I don't think any one of them did it RAW, and I don't really blame them.

    D&D 5E (2014) To Allow Multi-Class or Not....A DM's Dilemma

I might be in the minority here, but: 1) I have yet to see a build that can actually do "everything". Maybe more things, but not all things. There's plenty of group dependency even with MCing. 2) Biggest imbalances that I've seen are actually underpowered builds vs. group than overpowered builds...

    D&D 5E (2014) What do you do?

I would first take inventory of what strategic options exist at that point. A well-timed CC or high-level spell that buys time to bring everyone up and re-group, would be my strategy. Also, did they have an exit strategy before going in? Failure to plan at tier 4 is definitely planning to fail.

D&D 5E (2014) Balance of Power Problems in 5e: Self created?

This has been my impression as well. I have played with characters who were decidedly weak, but they were like warlocks who didn't pick hex or any any attack spells on their spell list.

D&D 5E (2014) Balance of Power Problems in 5e: Self created?

True. I was only responding the "bag of hit points" subtopic. On the other hand, I've heard many times a DM will say "I thought battle X would be easy for you guys, but it almost took you out". So yeah, I guess part of the reason why there is dice in the game to begin with - not just to simulate...

D&D 5E (2014) Balance of Power Problems in 5e: Self created?

I think the answer to this is a pretty deep and situational topic. For me personally, having a "perfectly" balanced battle every single time breaks the realism a little and hurts the game, sorta like how a lot of the big explosion action movies have similar plot lines, and the "epic, nail-biting...

D&D 5E (2014) Balance of Power Problems in 5e: Self created?

I feel like MCing was done pretty well. There are some subtleties for certain class combos that show up on Sage Advice that shows that the designers had thought it through. What don't think was thought through as well were feats. I mean, you can see huge power imbalances by just looking at them...

D&D 5E (2014) Balance of Power Problems in 5e: Self created?

Players choose which classes and builds to play, and they can choose to see how they will compare against other classes and builds before they start. No rules are hidden, and there's plenty of class/build analysis and discussion online (IF they choose to find it). If I choose a class/build that...

D&D 5E (2014) Balance of Power Problems in 5e: Self created?

I think you're conflating two issues here. Just because there's interdependence doesn't necessarily mean that there isn't power imbalance. And just because there isn't interdependence doesn't mean that there is power imbalance. And it certainly doesn't imply that one is caused by the other. For...

    D&D 5E (2014) Stealth Revamp

I would just explicitly state the rules about popping out of cover and attacking with advantage. Like "rogues can use their bonus action to test stealth vs. target PP to cause their next attack to roll with advantage, provided they are currently and remain unseen by their target until the start...

D&D 5E (2014) good things, bad things and things you would change about 5e

I'd let advantage/disadvantage stack. I'd also get rid of 5e surprise rules, and go back to surprise round. In my experience, this "simpler" 5e version of surprise ends up causing more confusion and consternation than helping.

    D&D 5E (2014) 10HP Bonus for Level 1 Characters. Thoughts?

Seems reasonable. Crits received at level 1 can insta-kill too easily, even with a smart party and good tactics.
