D&D 5E (2014) DM Help! My rogue always spams Hide as a bonus action, and i cant target him!

For me, an enemy can have an awareness of a rogues location all it wants - just like a party can be aware of the location of an invisible enemy. The party is still getting disadvantage on all attacks. I don't find this to be a problem. If it's just a rogue (solo) vs. enemy, then the enemy isn't...

Rule -1. Otherwise, you'll end up an empty table, and there's no point in talking about the game anyways.

D&D 5E (2014) DM Help! My rogue always spams Hide as a bonus action, and i cant target him!

Yeah wasn't directing the realism bit at you - more of a general statement on this thread. Anyways, your ruling is your ruling - no problem with that. Mine is: 1: If a rogue pops out a bit to shoot without having a successful stealth check, they are seen and thus lose advantage. 2: If a rogue...

D&D 5E (2014) DM Help! My rogue always spams Hide as a bonus action, and i cant target him!

Well at the end of the day it's always up to the reader to decide anyways. Personally I think this is the most objective case I've seen on this thread. I think there are several problems going on in this thread. 1: The OP doesn't like how he can't target the rogue (and therefore, something must...

But they do speak to author's intent. The fact that they are optional rules doesn't change the fact that they are in the PHB, and are presumably consistent with the core rules. Otherwise, how could you use them in a game? The skulker seems perfectly fine as far as editing goes, and this wasn't...

D&D 5E (2014) DM Help! My rogue always spams Hide as a bonus action, and i cant target him!

One of the benefits of the Skulker feat is: When you are hidden from a creature and miss it with a ranged weapon attack, making the attack doesn't reveal your position. If being hidden an popping out to shoot would normally reveal yourself, it would make this benefit moot, since your position...

D&D 5E (2014) DM Help! My rogue always spams Hide as a bonus action, and i cant target him!

I've seen the video arguing as much about limiting repeated hiding checks. The problem with the way it was presented is that it tacitly assumes it's just the rogue vs. enemy, which is usually not the case. If a paladin is up in the enemy's face, that definitely should merit the rogue hiding when...

D&D 5E (2014) Wanting more content doesn't always equate to wanting tons of splat options so please stop.

What I meant was, suppose there's a new class X. Notwithstanding multiclassing, the inclusion of X has no bearing on the balance of existing barbarian class. Now, suppose there's a new feat Y. That does have a bearing on the balance of barbarian (and every other class). My point: there's...

True. Most classes in the phb are only a handfull of pages. The other thing is that there is varied levels of crunch. Adding a class doesn't affect anything else in the game (other than multiclassing options). Adding new spells or feats has a much broader scope.

Perhaps in flavor, but certain mechanics are quite distinct from what you could try to come up with in the phb. The fact that SWAG is a seller would answer that question with "yes". And for those that don't, then inaction (not buy the book) makes this a non-issue for them.

By merit of the fact that WotC is releasing more content (however slow) would imply that WotC disagrees with you. Otherwise, they would simply say "It's already in what's already released."

I certainly don't read his statements that way. His arguments seem well-grounded and reasonable. You seem to imply that there is no middle ground between what the release schedule is now, and the splat-fest of prior editions?

D&D 5E (2014) What official material is considered problematic to the point where it is not balanced and presents a problem?

I agree with surprise being an issue. Just make it a surprise round. It's simpler, and everyone seems to assume that already. Poison I think is also incomplete. The basic poison in PHB is so weak and price is laughable. Also, the game economy is incomplete. So you've bought your plate armor...

D&D 5E (2014) Wanting more content doesn't always equate to wanting tons of splat options so please stop.

In general I agree with you, but it seems like WotC is pretty resolved to not go back to splat-fest - not by a long shot, so I don't see any legitimate reason to actually worry about this. I do like the options that have been released. I thought SCAG could have done without some of the fluff...

Assuming WotC continues their theme and emphasis for 5e, they will continue to have their sun, even if more content is released.

Well I guess put me down for "me too". But I would not say this forum is a good representation of 5e in general. Can't verify this - just from personal experience talking with people in various shops and cons. Also, I honestly don't understand the beef here about people objecting to new content...

Fair enough. I won't defend this going the other direction either.

But even if that's true (haven't fully read all these, so no conclusion there), his call for people that disagree with him to keep the gloves up when discussing/debating is valid, in any context. And as I said before, the pejorative generalizations and smug dismissals of other people's wants...
