    D&D 5E (2014) Shadow Monk: Straight, or Monk/Rogue

So I play a shadow monk/rogue. I would say step of the wind is disappointing - you'll want all of your ki points for stunning (after level 5, that is). Also, arcane trickster is a very viable choice. Finally, I highly recommend mobility as a feat.

D&D 5E (2014) your tweaks to the Revised Ranger

I think the designers need to release a 2.0 revision of what they are currently thinking. As has been mentioned, it's not been balanced for multiclassing, and until that is addressed I think the design tweaks of what we currently have released will be moot, by and large.

    D&D 5E (2014) rogue skills

Perception and stealth are the two big ones. You'll often be looking for traps/treasure, and being able to hide is part of your core combat mechanic. After that it depends on what kind of rogue you want. Some possibilities are investigation, persuasion, deception, acrobatics, but you can...

D&D 5E (2014) Is infinite diversity in infinite combinations .... a terrible thing in D&D?

But I think the point here is that it could be about narrative instead instead setting. Or, as you pointed out, it could be about setting and not narrative. Context is everything here.

D&D 5E (2014) Is infinite diversity in infinite combinations .... a terrible thing in D&D?

I don't know - it seems a lot of the implied issues are ones here where the easiest fix is to stop assuming it's a problem.

D&D 5E (2014) Multiclassing ability score prerequisites—required for balance or an unnecessary hurdle?

I think it's to stop some super-cheese, but honestly it kinda begs the question of why they don't just make 13 a requirement for the primary stat(s) for all classes, whether players multiclass or not.

UA: New Race Options, Eladrin and Gith

References to "psionics" in the race description, and then later release the Psionics class. I smell lots of unnecessary rules questions and quibbling on the horizon...

D&D 5E (2014) West Marches: Handling Return to Town

I guess it sorta depends on what you're aiming for. Having the travel back encounters can be anti-climatic, but on the other hand can be more realistic. Plus it can make it more cohesive segway into something else. Plus usually there's a long rest involved after getting outside again.

D&D 5E (2014) What are the common features of the best DMs

While I agree in general with 9, I would say though not having every single battle be "perfectly balanced" to the party is good. Otherwise, it gets predictable and breaks the immersion IMO. Instead, there should be some soft balls, and there should also be some scenarios where it's over the...

D&D 5E (2014) "when circumstances are appropriate for hiding"

So yeah - seen tons of these kinda threads. Boils down to this: 1. DM arbitration over rules - everyone agrees here, and pragmatically this is the only thing that matters. For whether the DM is consciously houseruling or sincerely believes RAW/RAI is in line with their ruling, it's the same...

An incomplete list of D&D rules explicitly left to the DM to rule on

Disarming strike: After a successful disarm, can the player pick up the weapon, or kick it away, or do nothing to it? Basically makes or breaks the viability of the maneuver, since the enemy can otherwise just use their free action to pick it back up again and use it as if nothing happened.

D&D 5E (2014) Multiclassing just with the core PHB any combo more powerful at low to medium levels?

Shadow monk 6 assassin rogue 3. Extra attack offsets missing sneak attack, plus gives one more opportunity to land sneak attack if first attack missing. Plus, teleport. Very thematically coherent.

D&D 5E (2014) [DM problem] Is the group I am leading too strong? Is the 5E system unbalanced?

Lots of fights so the barbarian runs out of rages. Archer rogue: no places to hide. Fights in a room with magical silence. Charm/dominate person/crown of madness. Greater Invisibility. Split the party. Black puddings in a small room. Encounters when they try to rest. Counterspell. Casters that...

New Season 7 Death Curse rules posted

Overall I'd say that the rules as posted is very complicated/confusing, both in their effect as well as what they're implied intent is. Why is there is there an effect between my characters if one completes a s7 T3 vs some other season, and why should this matter? Is the point here to make...

    D&D 5E (2014) Pacifist Class Concept

So... Banishment? Summoning monster that you don't directly control? I can see certain things that would be a bit OP at early levels.

    D&D 5E (2014) Building a better Rogue

I believe RAW you need to have both, not one or the other.

    D&D 5E (2014) Building a better Rogue

That's an interesting fix - either stealth or beat initiative. I like it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Building a better Rogue

I might mention one more: Get rid of having initiative order being a factor on whether or not assassins get crit damage (surprise rules + assassinate).

    D&D 5E (2014) Building a better Rogue

I think rogues is already a pretty solid class. I might tweak some of the seldom-used features of some of the sub-classes (assassin's disguise and poison, for example).
