Core Religion Survivor - Round Thirteen

How would you do it better? I'm serious -- I'm struck with the same problem in world design, and I'd like thoughts on this.

DM's: Are you afraid to kill PC's because of how players might react?

    1. New characters generally come in 1 level below party level, or 2 levels below if the party level is at least 10. 2. PCs generally have 'wills' or the like; typically most of the possessions go to other PCs. 3. New characters come in 1 or 2 levels below the old character, per #1 (except as...

    Epic Levels

The epic SRD has been updated for 3.5. Also, a few products have had some epic support.

Core Religion Survivor - Round Thirteen

Moradin's still here? Well,he has my vote at least.

    Pantheon design

No doubt. I should have started earlier -- I've 'only' put in half to a third as much time. I do very much like to shake things up in my game, although admittedly I've never done it to that level. I have, however, had gods die -- several (including a greater god) historically, and at least...

    3 Very Different Campaigns

Ditto. Of the four, only the third has characters die normally, so I'd choose that one. It's ultra-harsh, though, making new characters come in at 1st if the group is of any significant level.

Which spell-like ability did you ask Santa for this year?

Wish, polymorph any object, and shapechange are the best high-level ones. Control weather isn't bad. Charm person would actually be great; eagle's splendor would have been great in 3.0. Greater teleport, though, might get my vote. No long commutes in the mornings, vacations are easy, etc.

Only SIX d20/OGL books on island scenario

Complete Book of Eldritch Might SRD Denizens of Avadnu BoED and BoVD? PH2 and SpC? Some kind of splats, I'm not sure. Spycraft (probably 2.0 when the next printing comes out)

    Grapple: The fix.

I have trouble understanding what's so complex about grappling. Probably half the times we use non-damage spells we have to look them up to see how they work, but my group almost never stops to look up the grapple rules -- they're pretty simple, I thought.

    Pantheon design

Wow, what an answer! That sounds like quite a setup. And yes, I'm loking to see how everyone does it in their own campaign. You have a very regimented pantheon. What would happen if something occurred to shake it up -- say, the good Greater God died? Why does your Triad work together (and...

AoO Q - Cat vs. Commoner

That's how I read it. Certainly the cat provokes on entering the square; I see no problem with allowing the cat to remain in the opponent's square (otherwise no full attacks for the cat, because the human will step back every time forcing the cat to move 10' into the square).

    Pantheon design

I have similar feelings about the number of gods at each power level. I have three greater gods (was four, one passed 'beyond the veil'), about 7 intermediate gods, maybe 16 lesser gods, and then I'm still figuring out how many demideities I have. Interestingly we're fairly far apart on what...

    Pantheon design

Upper_Krust, Sure. In the collection of all gods in a setting (what do you call this, since you use Pantheon to mean something else?), how much power do various divine groups hold? Dynasties, pantheons, councils, etc. Organizations that include all the gods aren't what I'm talking about --...

Core Religion Survivor - Round Twelve

No... more.... racial gods! Go, Moradin! As commanded. :D At the moment Moradin leads the votes by 1.

    Pantheon design

How do you design your (sub-sidereal) pantheons? I'm interested in general principles: how many gods, what power levels, what aspects. Do you use racial gods? If so,how powerful are they -- greater gods, like in GH and FR? If you allow mortals to ascend, what percentage of your gods are...

    How dumb are constructs?

I'd say they know on the basis of their Wisdom score. This can come in a variety of different ways -- sensors similar to pain receptors, large lists of harmful things, or just observing one's structural degradation.
  17. CRGreathouse

    How dumb are constructs?

Lots. They can't learn or remember, just like golems. That's why I suggested the 'PCs going into the acid' scenario -- it burns the golem, but it doesn't figure this out round to round, each round essentially figuring 'I'll get out of this acid right after I finish this guy off' instead of...
  18. CRGreathouse

    How dumb are constructs?

A bug in a pit filled with a (mild) acid would try to get out, right? Vermin, like golems, have Int --. Now if the characters, being magically immune to acid, stood at the bottom of the pit the golem would probably jump down into it to attack them -- but that's a different situation.

Weapon Types. What are they good for? Nothin!

It's very little work to keep track of weapon types, so why not? Even if it doesn't come up every session, it's not a big deal.

What do you find most Magical about 3E/3.5 art?

I love the vibrant colors, where most earlier work was b/w. The poses are in general more dynamic, certainly much more dynamic than the staid 2E illustrations but in my opinion also more so than the average illustration from the 1E MM and FF. The creatures have more sensible anatomies, where...
