    Oozes in fantasy...where's the inspiration?

Where did you learn that? I'd love a quote & citation for my monster origins page.

    Starting at level 0

Yes, the 3.0 DMG has rules for this. The intent may have been to allow a 1st-level character to have two classes, I can't remember, but certainly it could be used to have only half a class. If you'd like I could try to dig those rules up for you.

    Base Class: Scholarly Warrior

I think the class will have trouble keeping up in combat. An 8th-level fighter has 5 bonus feats; your class would have 1 (and not Power Attack, Cleave, Dodge, Mobility, Spring Attack, Whirlwind Attack, Two-Weapon Fighting, or a host of other martial feats). The skill boosts are nice, but not...

Immortals Handbook - Epic Bestiary (Epic Monster Discussion)

Funny, I think components make more sense for sorcerers than for wizards.

How much profanity in your game?

Almost none, but sometimes some in character.

How many of you actually use the term "buff" in game?

I sometimes use the term, but never during play or in-character.

    mundane belt idea

For 1000 gold, I would probably let characters keep things in it for extended periods of time (as long as they don't keep it overnight or anything like that). Also, since PC-crafted items cost 1/3 the normal price, I might make it 900 gp for easier divisibility.

    Are dice perfectly balanced?

After about 20 rolls that seemed to favor low numbers on a set of particularly cheap dice, I decided to roll a few hundred times to test my assumption. The results were well within the expected range, which goes to show that modern dice are pretty good (even cheap ones) and that almost all of...

    Immortals Handbook - ASCENSION

True viruses are pretty rare these days; worms are more common. I agree that this sounds more like spyware, though.

    Buffs and Maths (mini-rant)

Yes, that's what I'm talking about. Make the spells better, very noticeable (more than +1 to this or that) but with a tight restriction on how many work at a time. Perhaps they could be more specialized, perhaps not -- but either way this would give magic the feel I'm looking for better than...

WotC DnD Web page - Down?

The page is partially fixed now -- it loads the top, and even some of the content links (all internal content seems to be fine), but the lower 2/3 of the page is broken.

    Buffs and Maths (mini-rant)

I'm going to split my answer. I don't mind the math, and wouldn't mind more, but I do think the buffs are overboard and I'd like to tone them down severely.

Lions vs. 10th level party..results of low magic encounter

Of course lions have Jump +9 (+5 Str, +4 speed), so they can probably just leap up (even if you don't give them the full 8' vertical reach for a Large quadruped). :]

Immortals Handbook - Epic Bestiary (Epic Monster Discussion)

I'm going to give this as critical an eye as I can manage. First, negative numbers aren't well-defined as such (do you mean negative rationals, reals, or integers). Also, normal numbers are orthogonal to the whole hierarchy. Try this: Natural and Negative natural (equal CR, but mirror-image...

More house rules for heal checks

Because the fighter was better able to take those dagger hits and turn them into less serious wounds. The fighter isn't turning from flesh to wood to stone to iron as he levels, making him that much more able to soak up damage (though he may become somewhat tougher through higher Con); he's...

    Help with a few spells

Deactivate is very specific. I'd have to think about how Construct HD vs. CR/expected caster level work before saying too much, but it's not too strong to be sure. (I suspect it's weak, and should be lowered a level, but I don't know yet.) I don't think it should have (object) in the saving...

    Help with a few spells

Lighten load seems very weak as a third-level spell. Compare this to floating disk: at 1st level it doubles max lifting capacity for a Str 10 human; at 5th it doubles it for a Str 22 human; phantom steed won't do quite as much for lifting (at least until high levels), but can fight and bear the...

    Sadistic glass-themed spells

Wow, that's a strong spell. I don't know that it's too powerful, since it's single-target, but it sure isn't weak. 1d8/level (max 15d8) that can't be avoided easily (no save, SR, or energy type, and all damage types), plus a point of Con unless you save. It might just be better as 5th level...

AD&D 2E Gestalt, the Half Elf, 2E, and You.

Perhaps you suggest this particular triple gestalt for half elves and normal (double) gestalt for everyone else? That could work, although it would be rather powerful.
