    D&D 5E (2014) is stealth an action?

Well let me put it this way. The only way in the entire game to gain the benefit "enemies don't know where you are and have to guess" is to be hidden from another creature. I know this because I've written the guide for stealth and hiding and I have actually gone through the entire PHB...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlock and Repelling Blast

Well actually the example of the trap door is fine if it's meant to be an example of a perceivable event (the guy steps on the trap door) and the action you do in response (pull the lever). There's nothing wrong with the examples. The only reason to call it "useful way" is because you want it...

    D&D 5E (2014) is stealth an action?

It might be absurd to you but that is how the game works. The only way for that invisible character to gain the benefits of being hidden, being unseen and unheard and for others to not know where you are, is to roll stealth and beat the passive perception of observers including observers who...

    D&D 5E (2014) is stealth an action?

You're confusing the travel pace rules which allow you to move at half speed outside combat to be stealthy and stealth used in combat which uses your action or bonus action if you're a rogue. Your DM is correct as long as you were in combat which you just said you were because you were in...

    D&D 5E (2014) is stealth an action?

+1. I really think that he's mixing up travel pace rules and stealth rules.

    D&D 5E (2014) Eberron popularity in 5E

I'm also really looking forward to this content. Some of the best campaigns I've ever run happened in Eberron :)

    D&D 5E (2014) is stealth an action?

You're confusing in combat actions and out of combat actions. Travel pace rules explain that outside combat it's possible to travel at half movement to move stealthily. However, IN COMBAT, rolling stealth to hide is an Action and rogues get cunning action to do it easier. Your DM is correct...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlock and Repelling Blast

I know you like to take things to extremes when speaking about what I said, but that doesn't serve the discussion at all Seebs. Especially when you're simply making strawmen to argue against. Counterspell, just like Shield specifically calls out that it can interrupt an action and invalidate...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlock and Repelling Blast

I'm saying that you're grasping at examples presented without any context about things that can be perceived. Those examples don't serve to say that they must resolve the way you claim or that I claim. It proves nothing. Do you have anything else?

Well then perhaps you're a better person than I am :)

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlock and Repelling Blast

So again, you told me to go look at example triggers (without any context) in the PHB which are fully within the DM's realm to accept or refuse. That's not evidence that you're right. Those are just examples of how to phrase it to go off a potentially perceivable trigger. It's not proof one...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlock and Repelling Blast

You told me to go read example readied action triggers that fall completely within the realm of DM fiat to accept or reject. That's like me telling you to go ask your DM about if he would accept me swimming a mile in the river. He can say yes or he can say no and either way it's his...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlock and Repelling Blast

Ok here's the thing. I don't care how my posts make me look when it comes to most people. I just simply don't care. You and I seem to have the same opinions but I think it's simply a difference in caring about what others think of us. It's a difference in personality perhaps. What I do care...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlock and Repelling Blast

Oh that wasn't directed to you. That was in response to the guy I quoted :) You haven't posted anything I disagree with in this thread Bolares. You know the rules, you've quoted them, you've explained your posts well and as far as I can tell you're a great person. However, I've got no...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlock and Repelling Blast

I've never said there wasn't. I said that the interpretations forwarded by multiple people in this thread, read houserules, are yours and yours alone. No one here is interested in discussing houserules clearly. You're all claiming to be following the rules of the game. Agreeing that...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlock and Repelling Blast

Correct, you can't use dispel on instantaneous spells, regardless of if you're attempting to ready dispel to go off a trigger or whatever else. Instantaneous spells CANNOT be dispelled.
