Why avoid building Cure per day items ?

I'm not sure. Given how cheap wands of cure light wounds are, it seems like you can basically avoid casting out-of-combat cure spells anyway. I had an unlimited-use cure light wounds item in the last campaign I DMed, and I can't say that it caused any disruption. Rod of miraculous healing: This...

    Dispel Magic vs Mind Blast

The original 3rd edition Psionics Handbook had mind blast as a sort of power, and its duration was instantaneous. However, the Psionics Handbook had mind blast as a supernatural ability, so I don't know how much precedent that would set.

Do recreational drugs feature in your campaign?

It depends on the campaign. In the normal D&D high-fantasy, only alcohol makes an appearance. In my d20 Fallout game, probably about 1/10 of the NPCs encountered are junkies, and the PCs tend to use drugs as combat boosters as well. I think its a genre and style issue.

Do you think the FAQ is being used as the official source for new rules?

I voted yes, but they shouldn't. The FAQ clearly does not go through the same kind of vetting process that the actual errata documents do. Things like the acid/sonic damage hardness question, the sheathing of weapons question, or the pixie racial hit dice question show that the FAQ is simply one...

    PCs die when...

When they run out of hit points. I don't fudge rolls, so they can die in really any circumstances. I've had people die in random encounters before, actually, although I try not to let that happen. (If it does, I try to come up with a plotline derived from the random encounter so the death has...

What's the Most Asinine Character Idea/Concept You've Dealt With?

I once played an awakened golden lion tamarin (a kind of monkey) psion (nomad) in a long-term, serious campaign. He wore a little cape and posed as the wizard's familiar. He was actually pretty effective with mass concussion.

Can a monk take Improved Natural Attack?: The Poll!

I assume feat prerequisites and spell targets are considered to be part of the "effect". If they weren't, that ability would have almost no purpose at all.

Does Heighten Spell increase "dice caps?"

That's not a general rule for 3rd level spells. There is a general guideline for the creation of new spells that a 3rd level arcane spell that affects an area should have a damage cap of about 10 dice. Its a guideline for the creation of new spells, and in no way is a rule regarding the...

How Big can a bow go?

Of course, centaurs are much stronger (the average centaur has a carrying capacity 9 times greater than an average human's) and heavier than humans, so that they use larger, heavier weapons isn't suprising.

Evil casters using [good] spells ?

Is there a rules quote for that? I've never seen one.

Is Caster Level a prerequisite for creating magic items?

The cost of a cape of the montebank is 10,080 gp, regardless of the cape's caster level. You're confusing guidelines for the creation of entirely new magic items with the rules for creating magic items, which state that "the caster level is determined by the creator" and that a cape of the...

Is Caster Level a prerequisite for creating magic items?

The new caster level rules do have some problems. For a good example, look at the cape of the mountebank. Given the errata, you can create this item with any caster level equal to or greater than 9. Higher caster level capes are better items, as they have a greater range, weight limit, and are...

    Let's make Gnolls a good LA+1 race

I think just dropping the racial hit dice would beef them up enough to make them mechanically viable LA +1 characters. They have somewhat favorable ability modifiers and a natural armor bonus. They keep up in attack rolls, deal better damage, and have better AC than a comprable human melee-type.

    Yuan-Ti

If they have breasts, they probably don't lay eggs. Alternativly, you could say that the yuan-ti do lay eggs and the breasts are vestigial, and are owed to the yuan-ti's human origin. I don't think there are any published materials specifically addressing the method of yuan-ti reproduction, so...

Are Poison Dusk Lizardfolk too powerful for only LA+1?

I don't think the natural attack routine is a big advantage. It has certain advantages over two-weapon fighting, but in the long run two weapon fighting has a signifigantly higher base damage, better accuracy, and substaintially more attacks per round. Also, the hide ability only works when the...

Are Poison Dusk Lizardfolk too powerful for only LA+1?

Comparing to hobgoblins is a bad idea. Hobgoblins are very weak for a LA +1 creature. I've seen a poison dusk lizardman in play, and the character caused no problems. (He was a ranger focused on archery and poison use.)

[SWd20] To those who want Episode III goodies

Anyone else think that new blaster is rather powerful? 3d8+3 damage is quite a bit for a heavy blaster pistol. It even has a reasonably good (DC 18) stun setting.

How to use the Burrow movement?

No, that's not correct. If you do nothing but move, the square you started in doesn't count as threatened. That's it. If you move out of another threatened square, you provoke an attack, as normal. This means that if you are adjacent to a creature with reach, you can't get away using normal...

    Flaming whip

The rule specifically states that the weapon deals the damage. That's the important part. Thus, a flaming whip deals 1d3 slashing damage and 1d6 fire damage. A whip cannot deal damage to a creature with an armor bonus of +1 or higher or natural armor bonus of +3 or higher. Because the fire...
