    Reigning in Skills

Perhaps 2nd-edition style non-weapon proficiencies would work better for you. They don't really encourage hyperspecialization (spending multiple slots on one ability yields pretty pathetic returns) and encourage characters to have a broad base of skills. They also limit the upper power level...

    Cover, reach, and AoO?

The relevant rules would be: It specifies a maximum for what is considered "low cover" vs. normal cover, but it doesn't specify a minimum. However, a kobold is about 3 feet tall, or about one-half a human's height, which is the maximum threshold for low cover, so it certainly counts as low...

Warlock - Frightening or Sickening Blast?

Earthen grasp doesn't work very well. The hand has a very bad AC, so the AoO generally hits and stops the grapple. It is really only good for taking up a square and "wasting" people's AoOs.

    Do you use Random encounters?

I use random encounters, but only for large, dangerous areas without many cites or other population centers, like the Astral Plane or various parts of the Abyss.

Unbalanced Powers in the Expanded Psi Handbook?

If you're really worried about glitterdust, then everything in the PHB and XPH except for Dodge and Toughness is overpowered. More seriously, dispel psionics, energy missile, and energy stun are problematic, all becuase they have strange augmentations. Dispel psionics seems to have a typo, it...

I Just Couldn't Bring Myself to Do It

A 4th level PC dwarf by himself is an EL 4. (A single CR 4 creature is an EL 4 encounter.) A party of four 4th level PCs is an EL 8.

3.5 Stat Blocks Kill my creativity

d20 Modern somewhat reduces the difficulty of making stat blocks. It divides characters in too two classes: heroic characters and ordinaries. The vast majority of people are ordinaries, and ordinaries do not have class features or bonus feats, and cannot take advanced or prestige classes...

    Weapon size and reach madness.

Obviously the game designers aren't to worried about one-handed spiked chains: the kusari-gama is basically a one-handed spiked chain and is in the DMG.

    Imroved Trip and AoOs

AoOs occur before the action that triggers them. The sequence would be:Baddy declares he is going to get up.PC takes his AoO, before the baddie begins to get up.Baddie gets up.EDIT: I just looked up the rules of AoOs, and I can't find anything to support my interpretation. So, just ignore me...

    Concealment question

Hypothetical situation. Lets say we have two persons, which are 300 feet apart from one another in a completly open plane. This plane is completly and utterly dark, except that both persons have daylight cast on thier helms. They try to fire ranged weapons at each other, do they have...

What does having a negative caster level mean?

Now that I think about it, the minimum caster level for a sorcerer to cast a spell can't be represented by a formula. You have to be 1st level to cast 0-level and 1st-level spells, then the progression is spell level * 2.

    Half-giant 'Powerful Build' from XPH

The ability doesn't say that the half-giant is "considered Large size whenever it is advantageous for him". It says that he is considered Large size "whenever a half-giant is subject to a size modifier or special size modifier" and "when determining whether a creature’s special attacks based on...

What does having a negative caster level mean?

I think it would vary based on the class. The minimum caster level for a sorcerer to cast a spell would be spell level * 2, etc.

    Magical armor bonuses to AC

So, I repeat, does anyone have a quote from an actual rulebook that even implies that the enhancement bonus of a magical suit of armor or magical shield is applied to that armor or sheild's armor or shield bonus to AC?

    Magical armor bonuses to AC

The point of my thread is that armor with an enhancement bonus gives you an enhancement bonus to AC. Thus, magic vestment gives you an enhancement bonus to AC, which stacks with the armor bonus to AC provided by mage armor. Different bonus types always stack.

    Magical armor bonuses to AC

As far as I can tell, Table 8--1 was cut in the revision. The text around it (the definitions of the various types and the Behind the Curtain sidebar) was moved to page 21.

    Magical armor bonuses to AC

Re: dcollins; page #? I can find "armor bonus" and "enhancement bonus", but I can't find a definition for "armor enhancement bonus". Re: TheEvil; in the core rules, bracers of armor, mage armor, etc. (Mage armor and magic vestment stack, for example.) There are also some interactions with...

    Lords of Madness Art Gallery

I actually liked some of crabapple's work in lords of madness. I like how he drew this, for example. I also liked his alienist picture and psuedonatural hippogryph picture in complete arcane. He draws gooey, pustule covered monstrosities well, in my opinion. If only he could draw a decent...

    Magical armor bonuses to AC

I always see people on this board claming that the enhancement bonus from a magic armor is a bonus to the armor's armor bonus (much in the same fashion as barkskin provides an enhancement bonus to a creature's natural armor bonus). Is there any support at all for this in the rules? It seems to...

    Favorite Monster for Polymorph

Cave troll (MM3) is pretty good. Gives good Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution, as well as pounce, rake, rend, dazing blow, and improved grab. Lots of (ex) special attacks.
