    Railroading... but not really

I've never run an Ebberon campaign, so I can't answer the poll. However, one of the big things that appeals to me about Ebberon is the idea of fighting bandits on the roof of a speeding lighting rail.

How long are your combat rounds taking PER PLAYER? Speedchess vs slowChess

I don't know how it would take longer than 1 minute at 4th-8th level. You probably only have one thing you can do each round, so there shouldn't be more than 3 die rolls per turn under normal circumstances.

    Confusion in Monk's Belt

I don't really see a way to read that other than the user of a monk's belt gets to add his or her Wisdom bonus to AC. If you're not adding your Wisdom bonus to AC, you don't have "the AC [...] of a 5th-level monk".

Are we sure we need a skill guy?

OD&D had the fighting-man, magic-user, and cleric as its three classes, so something like that has been tried in the past.

What is the standard ability score set? Are most games playing too high?

I just looked in my 2E PHB, and these two characters are basically exactly the same in combat (although there are some differences, like chance to break down doors and survive resurrection). I decided to include reaction modifier and loyalty base as combat statistics, as they do affect when your...

Callled Shot rules in 'Core' D&D?

There are rules for damage to specific body parts in the DMG, but no rules on how one might damage those body parts specifically. I assume the rules are for finger-crushing traps and the like.

    Spells vs DR question

Damage reduction allows the creature to "ignore [a certain amount of] damage from most weapons and natural attacks". It doesn't apply to anything else.

Can't get my head around the Hide skill

I think you roll a Hide check with every action you take. There isn't any other way to apply the check modifiers that I can think of. Again, I think its every action you take. "If people are observing you, even casually, you can’t hide", so it looks like you can't, even if it does make sense...

What do you think of the Duskblade?

I think they look cool, but I've never had a chance to play one. When the time came for me to finally play again, Bo9S had just come out, and I just had to try that out.

How fast do you level in 3.x? (read before you vote)

Hmm. It has varied quite a bit for me based on the DM. When I run a game, people generally level up every 1-2 sessions, because I run a very difficult, fast-playing hack-and-slash game. We have another DM where we made it to 9th level after two years of playing weekly, because his game was...

Which Diplomacy Rule Do You Use (if any)?

I use my own house rules, where Bluff, Diplomacy, and Intimidate are replaced by a single skill called Convince.CONVINCE (CHA) Check: Convince is used to persuade a creature to do something or to feint in combat. Persuade: You can use a Convince check (DC 15 + target’s level + target’s...

Whats a reasonable AC at 10th level?

I think the normal guideline is that you should aim for an AC of 20 + your level, so you're right on target.

    The problem of sundering

He should suck it up, and also he should learn that spending half your cash on your weapon is extremely foolish, as there are many effects that instantly destroy weapons, such as rust monsters and black puddings.

Color spray (or, for the Brits, colour spray)

If I walk up on the other side of the bugbears from the fighter, do I get a +4 bonus on my attack roll and ignore their Dexterity bonus to AC because I'm effectively invisible and flanking? I would think I'd get total concealment from a "sightless" creature. Does their shield bonus apply?

What's better Power Attack vs. Weapon Focus

At 1st level, Weapon Focus is better. The ability to take a -1 penalty on attack rolls to gain a +2 bonus on damage rolls isn't as useful as a +1 bonus on attack rolls. Power Attack becomes more useful at later levels, when your attack bonus starts to vastly outstrip the AC of your opponents.

    A Non-PHB only game?

The campaign I'm playing in right now is part-way to a non-core campaign. Although everyone elected to play a core race, the only core class being played is the dwarf cleric (our group feels that WotC has yet to publish a viable substitute for the cleric). I'm playing an orc crusader, and we...

How to Make D&D Accessible to the Non-Mathematically Inclined?

I don't think you actually need a reasonable level of competence at math. I am terrible at arithmetic, so I just keep my TI-86 at the table when I'm playing.

    The Rule of Tens

    You mean a 1d20, right?

Black Puddings and Damage to Weapons

Yes and no. A when an attended magic item makes a saving throw, it either uses its wielder's bonus or its own, which is equal to its caster level / 2 + 2.

What did the hand say to the face?

There is no surprise round. You are aware of your opponent, thus, you are not surprised. There's a big difference between being aware of your opponent and being aware that a creature is you opponent. Only the first matters for surprise. In a situation like the one described, where someone...
