    Saving Throw issue with DM

The feral template only changes racial Hit Dice and has no effect on class Hit Dice, per Savage Species, pg. 112. As far as I know, the only templates that change class Hit Dice are templates that change you into an undead creature.

    Realistic Combat

The Mutants and Masterminds/True20 system seems like it models that pretty well, actually. If you're lucky, you can take hit after hit with no ill effect; if you're unlucky you can go down in one hit.

Do you prefer D20 or To Hit and Save Tables

Did AD&D1E not use THAC0? If it did, I don't think there's a substantial difference. There isn't a meaningful difference between THAC0 - 1d20 compared to AC and 1d20 + attack bonus compared to AC, except that 1d20 + attack bonus is more intuitive. UPDATE: After looking through OSRIC, it appears...

How easy is it to SELL magic items in your game?

In the games I run, if you're in a large enough city (as given by the DMG town gold limit guidelines) you say "I'm selling magic items X, Y, and Z", and you exchange the magic items for gold equal to 50% of their price. (I abstract all buying and selling, on the principle that shopping is boring.)

    [Engines & Empires] New Update

It looks interesting. I like how you did the 3rd edition XP chart--I think that's a simpler way of doing it (you don't need notations everywhere that you can't spend enough XP to lose a level, for example). One concern is that you seem to be in violation of the OGL; the shaman is using material...

Where can I find the Everbright Lantern?

In the Planescape setting, I think those were just lanterns with continual flame cast inside them.

Rope Trick vs. Leomund's Tiny Hut and better.

The point of origin of rope trick is the rope, so that clause does not allow rope trick to be dispelled, as area effects do not cross the extradimensional interface. Rope trick is a targeted spell, and does not have an area, so this clause does not allow you to dispel rope trick. Dispel magic...

Rope Trick vs. Leomund's Tiny Hut and better.

Dispel magic can only targeted against "one spellcaster, creature, or object"; rope trick is cast on an object. That object is beyond an "extradimensional interface" across which "spells cannot be cast".

Rope Trick vs. Leomund's Tiny Hut and better.

You can't actually dispel rope trick. The target of rope trick is "one touched piece of rope from 5 ft. to 30 ft. long" which you can "pull [...] up into the space", where it is "beyond the reach of spells". Tiny hut is actually a combat spell, despite the name. The most useful function of the...

    What have you played?

I've played a psion, psychic warrior, and warlock. I think the warlock was my favorite of these to play; the small number of at-will utility powers made for interesting problem solving. I think I came up with more uses for shatter in that game than I ever would of imagined before playing a warlock.

    any Turn Undead House Rules?

Here's a quick idea: When a cleric turns undead, all undead creatures within 60 feet must make a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 cleric level + cleric's Charisma modifier) or suffer a -4 penalty to attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks for 1 minute.

Microlite20 : the smallest thing in gaming

Orisons and cantrips are pretty worthless, though. Microlite20 characters also have the advantage of having full access to their entire spell list with spontaneous casting. Also, it says that magi can cast "any arcane spell" and clerics "any divine spell"; thus, magi can use cure light wounds...

Microlite20 : the smallest thing in gaming

A 1st-level wizard in D&D with Intelligence 16 can cast two 1st-level spells, and a 1st-level cleric with Wisdom 16 can cast three.

So when should a publisher ditch d20 and develop their own system?

It depends on what you mean by "good move". One answer is you should use a new system if you can make a better game by doing so; the other is that you should use a new system if you can make more money by doing so. Unfortunately, you can't really know in advance if you'll satisfy either of...

Touch spells: were they always like this?

I guess I should of said "touch spells sucked if you were a single-class mage"; as fighter/mages and fighter/clerics did indeed do pretty well with touch spells.

Touch spells: were they always like this?

It used to be that touch range spells were against normal AC and failed if you missed. Also, wizards had a much worse THAC0 in previous editions than they have BAB in 3.x (a wizard in previous editions have a BAB-equivalent of 1/4 their level, compared to 1/2 now). In short, touch spells sucked.

    D&D Rules Compendium (Hardcover) - October 2007

To me, "Rules Compendium" sounds like a Rules Cyclopedia-like version of 3.5. If it is, I will almost certainly buy it. I love the Rules Cyclopedia.

How comprehensive do you want your RPG game system rules?

I'm not sure how to vote. My current system of choice is a modified version of microlited20, which has rules for most actions, but the rule is almost always "roll a skill check, if you beat the DC you succeed". Essentially, the rules are comprehensive, but not detailed. Is that towards the high...
