Distracting players. How to deal with them?

These are probably the same people who had their own PE class when they were in school. Just take a ball and roll it into the middle of the room and yell, "Dodgeball!" Then, run for cover...

    Building a Lost Dwarven Kingdom

If you go to the Wizards website and find the old Map-A-Week column, one of the first ones was the set of maps from The Axe of the Dwarvish Lords. I d/led them and didn't know where they were from until I bought the adventure off eBay. It's your lucky day:Here they are. Enjoy!

How do you feel when the DM rules that you lose all of your items?

Fair exchange-all your magic items and now, Feldspar, for your life. BTW, you need to read Order of the Stick to see the amazing similarity between your halfling ranger and Belkar.

[Nov] What's up in your campaign?

We just started The Fane of the Witch King and it seems to be going well. I anticipate about 5 or 6 sessions worth of adventure with this. The real beauty if the adventure is that most of the monsters are ones from the D&D Minis that are out and it makes for great battles on the Battlemat. I...

    I don't want to be a D&D collector

I try to take care of my hardcovers, but I am not an*l-retentive about it. As for the modules: rip, tear, cut, put in fbinders with plastic sleeves-voila! Easy-to-use adventure that is more function than form.

    Ghoulish Tales

It started off as your typical trek into the Banewarrens-it ended as horror show for the citizens of Rel Spiros. Here's the story... The PCs descended into the Banewarrens and discovered a large, purplish gem on a pedestal. Despite subtle hints (like an electrified floor), the PCs took the...

Tell me of the gnolls (and flinds) in your world

Gnolls are the most predominant of the humanoid species in my world (a crossbreed of Fane of the Witch King & homebrew). The are mercenary in nature, but respond to only the strongest amongst themselves. They also have a penchant for using arbalests (much to the chagrin of my players)...

As a DM, how do you prepare for published adventures?

Do you read the whole module beforehand and only glance at the module during play when you need to? I try to read most of it beforehand and review the part(s) that we are going to use for the next session. Do you study it so much that you remember everything? Nope, but I know it pretty well...

Does Monte Know...[Spoilers for Fane of the Witch King]

I agree with all of that statement except for the "poor, wounded, lovable halfling" part... This coming from the man who said "we should attack the red dragon" and "to hell with Sir Rawlings"... :D

    If WotC publishes more adventures....

He was probably thinking of 'moon-beasts' which were found in a couple of stories (Dreamquest of the Unknown Kadath and The Silver Key, I believe).

Does Monte Know...[Spoilers for Fane of the Witch King]

Glad you asked. There's actually a funny story here (aside from the name Marshal Dylan...Gunsmoke...get it?). Paul played his character as a grizzled veteran who was attached to Sir Rawlings (the paladin of Heironeous). He followed him everywhere and was assigned to look after him (Sir Rawlings...

Does Monte Know...[Spoilers for Fane of the Witch King]

that The Fane of the Witch King is almost an exact duplicate of The Banewarrens? Not that this is bad, mind you. I loved the BW, but was never able to finish it. The FotWK is short enough that my group should be able to finish it in 5-7 sessions. Assuming they survive... Spoilers Ahead We had...

Looking for Tomb of horrors type adventure

A new Necromancer module called The Fane of the Witch King promises to have an extremely high mortality rate. It is a lot like The Banewarrens in flavor and execution. I'm getting ready to start running it this weekend and I'm really looking forward to it. I'll let you know how it plays...
