    I begin to worry...

Or, the fighter could spend some of those bonus feats (you know, his #1 class feature) on some combat focused feats and do more than just swing his sword. Like Power Attack, Sunder, Trip, Bull Rush, Disarm, etc etc etc. Oh, and he doesn't run out of "slots" or "charges" on these things, so he...

    "Hit" and "Miss"

Back in a 2ned game I ran, it was very fighter-type heavy, so I would do something like this in addition to describing each hit. It was very much like describing fight choreography, and the players loved it.

Ghost Manifestation: what kind of action?

Ok gotcha. Thanks guys! I'm going to have to get this Libris Mortis book one of these days it seems.

    "Hit" and "Miss"

Precisely. I rarely describe an attack as just a "miss", unless the attacker rolled a natural 1 or something, and even then I describe it humorously. Sitting at a table where every roll is answered with "hit, roll damage" or "miss, NEXT!" would be incredibly dull. That's another reason why I...

Ghost Manifestation: what kind of action?

Like the title says. I'm away from my books at work, and the SRD doesn't seem to explicitly state what kind of action is required for an ethereal ghost to manifest incorporeally onto the material plane. I assume a standard action, but I dunno. Any help?

    D&D 4E Paizo and 4e.

Well, sorta. The charm/dominate spells last a lot longer, so you enter combat with the meatshield already in place most of the time. But at lower levels, the bard isn't far off. Better armor and weapons than a pure rogue (almost as good as the fighter can afford), plus self help (buffs and...

    D&D 4E Paizo and 4e.

A Charm Monster heavy bard can most definately be a big frontline boost. I thought they were really kinda weak, until the Greater Spell Focus: Enchantment 22 Charisma bard was charming ogre barbarians and hill giants left and right!

Readied Action - Setting A Spear Against a Charge

This is such a good quote, it belongs in a sig, if not stickied at the top of the page. The same thing happens when an archer readies an action to "shoot at the first thing to come through the doorway". Does he not interrupt his foe's movement to shoot? Or does the foe get to finish his...

    D&D 4E Paizo and 4e.

Yeah, this is the vibe I'm getting. I think I might have mentioned it in another thread (or maybe this one, since it's pretty long now!), but the changes they are making seem to me to be a lot closer to games exactly like True20 or Savage Worlds than to D&D. I certianly don't have a problem with...

    D&D 4E Paizo and 4e.

I didn't mean to come off as hostile or rude (at least. not this time ;) ), so I apologize for that. I wasn't also really calling out tenkar on his post. It just seemed a prime example of some of the things I've seen said (or paraphrased, I suppose) in this subforum. Seemed a nice post to...

    D&D 4E Paizo and 4e.

Wow! In one post we get: 1) "make it up yourself" (despite the fact that no one knows how the new rules will work, especially for things like the new magic system) 2) "use internet posted material" (knowing full well that when PHBII/III/IV comes out with an official version, you have to retcon...

    Shadow Wall of Force?

Not if it's deep enough! :D

    Shadow Wall of Force?

That's precisely what I have coming up this Saturday (plus more surprises). Only previously, when I asked the forum about Shadow Walls of Stone, I got the answer that if they made their Will saves, it would only have X% of the hp and Hardness of a real Wall of Stone. Otherwise, it'd make for a...

    Shadow Wall of Force?

I was actually thinking about the Shadowcraft Mage from Races of Stone. With Heighten Spell, a Heightened Silent Image will do it at 50%, or 70% if the character has 5 levels in the class.

    Shadow Wall of Force?

So, Wall of Force is an Evocation spell. With a partially real Shadow Evocation version of a Wall of Force, what does X% real mean? You can't deal hp damage to a WoF, so you can't just give it X% hp or Hardness. If you make your will save, do you just have a % chance to ignore it?

    Adapt or Perish!

Or Improved Toughness. Or use some bonus fighter feats (since we are adding Fighter levels to the base critter) to fill in some combat crunch. I believe the reason why undead were given crappy BAB in the first place was because A0 corporeal undead are supposed to be slow and jerky and B)...

    Adapt or Perish!

Well, I don't consider adding a template or advancing by class or HD "finagling", and "a lot" of rules is relevant. I see what you are saying, but my point was one where the new edition seems to want to sacrifice flexibility for ease of use. I am ok with that, for some game systems. I think...

    Adapt or Perish!

After years of playing, owning and reading tons of diverse sytems from many different genres, I have found that one thing that had been missing was PC-Monster equality. By that I mean that in many many systems, the Monsters/NPCs didn't play by the same rules as the PCs. And that bugged me. For...

    D&D 3.x A message to the 3.5ers

LoL! Now that's funny! So it's official, "Your opinion is OFFICIALLY unwanted here". Yay freedom of expression! "I for one welcome our new fruity masters!"

    D&D 4E Paizo and 4e.

You know, I thought that might be the case, so I avoided the 4th ed forum entirely for a while, just to have the same hadfull of 4th ed fruit roll-up guys go into the other forums and, as you put it, "threadcrap" over there as well. What once was my online site of choice to go and discuss my...
