    D&D 5E (2014) Xanathar's Wiki of Everything: what's in the new book?

Of the SCAG subclasses, the ones I think are most likely to appear in Xanathar's are Swashbuckler Rogue, Arcana Cleric and Oath Of The Crown Paladin. Storm Sorcerer seems like a good candidate too, but there are several strong Sorcerer candidates from Unearthed Arcana already(I'm really hoping...

    D&D 5E (2014) [Help]LVL 20 One-Shot Fun Builds

Do you *have* to multiclass, or can you play a straight-up Lvl20 single-classed character?

Xanathar's Guide to Everything's Samurai Subclass

I know we got a second revision of the Arcane Archer in Unearthed Arcana, but I haven't heard about it being confirmed for XGTE. Where did you see that it was?

D&D 5E (2014) XGTE has the Samurai Subclass

D&D 5E (2014) Help with a Barbarian Multiclass build with Fighter

Correct. A lot of people think "Extra Attack" means just that, you get an additional attack per round. But it's worded very specifically, it says "When you take the Attack action, you can attack twice instead of once", and it's worded like that for each class that gets it. Then the Fighter...

D&D 5E (2014) Multiclassing ability score prerequisites—required for balance or an unnecessary hurdle?

That's what I thought at first when Vax mc'd into Paladin, that Mercer had waived the Str req for story purposes, but apparently Vax has a Str of 14 so he qualified. I don't know if he raised it with his previous ASI in preparation, I'd have to rewatch the early episodes to see what his scores...

D&D 5E (2014) Multiclassing ability score prerequisites—required for balance or an unnecessary hurdle?

Kind of an absurd example, anyone who rolls a 3 for Intelligence and chooses to be a wizard deserves whatever hardships they end up facing. :) To me the requirements generally make sense. I'd probably be OK with tweaking them so the classes with a Str or Dex requirement get switched to Str/Dex...

What paladin Oath would suit this premis the best?

Scourge Aasimar, Oath Of Vengeance Paladin sounds about right :)

    D&D 5E (2014) Advice on how I should multi-class

I'd probably stick with Fighter until Level 8, for two ASI/Feat bumps and Curving Shot at Level 7. And for the folks talking about builds out to Level 20, remember that he's playing Storm King's Thunder, which is not a 1-20 campaign. So any decisions about multiclassing should take into effect...

Coolest Cantrips for a Fiendish Tomelock

Obviously Fire Bolt fits for a Fiendlock, but as purely a damage cantrip it's likely to be overshadowed by Eldritch Blast. I agree, Control Flames could be a fun thematic choice in the same vein as Thaumaturgy & Prestidigitation. I would make sure you have a secondary go-to damage source though...

D&D 5E (2014) How to engage a "poke the bear" player?

I think you're just confusing people by seemingly avoiding what is almost always the best course of action, talking to the player directly. If you try to correct the behavior solely by making in-game adjustments, one of three things is likely to happen. 1) They might realize the point you're...

D&D 5E (2014) How to engage a "poke the bear" player?

In game, have him arrested and thrown in jail for disturbing the peace, and make it impossible for him to recover his favorite weapon/armor/etc when he gets out. Send NPCs after them for revenge. Make other NPCs less helpful when its needed and make sure the party knows it's explicitly because...

    D&D 5E (2014) Your top 5 feats

Spell Sniper & Sharpshooter, because wussies who hide behind rocks don't deserve AC bonuses from cover. War Caster, because Shocking Grasp as an AoO is way cooler that just swinging a dagger at them when they walk away. Resilient Con/Wis, I pretty much always take one of these two depending on...

D&D 5E (2014) [GUIDE] Blade, Book, and Chain: the Warlock Guide

Go back and re-read the spell text, at higher levels only the initial damage scales up. The auto-damage on subsequent rounds remains at 1d12. Yes, it's still a big hit in that first round, but it requires Concentration which means you'll lose spells like Hex, Hold Person etc. to cast it.

D&D 5E (2014) Magic items - The Mage’s Apprentice Cloak and the Master Mage's Cloak

But were they able to easily complete 5 encounters because they're just that good, or because you've already loaded them up with other homebrew that's more powerful than the official stuff? *shrug* This seems like mostly a contrast of play styles, so I'm gonna step out of the discussion. I...

D&D 5E (2014) Magic items - The Mage’s Apprentice Cloak and the Master Mage's Cloak

"Good" and "balanced" aren't necessarily the same thing, though. If you're balancing your encounters on the more difficult side, then adding something like this becomes less of an issue, but I'm still not a fan of auto-hits on attack rolls. 64 average damage is close to the average damage on a...

D&D 5E (2014) Magic items - The Mage’s Apprentice Cloak and the Master Mage's Cloak

Even so, at high levels cantrips can do quite a bit of damage. A 17th Level Warlock w/ 4 critical hits of Eldritch+Agonizing Blast would be doing ON AVERAGE 64 points of guaranteed damage, potentially up to 100.

D&D 5E (2014) Magic items - The Mage’s Apprentice Cloak and the Master Mage's Cloak

Not just guaranteed hits but guaranteed CRITICAL hits? Too much. I would be ok with something like "X charges: If you hit a target with an attack roll using your chosen cantrip this turn, it's automatically a critical hit." I'm also not sure about having the cloak act outside of your normal turn...

D&D 5E (2014) Newbie question re: surprise, initiative and ready action

This is probably the way to go, in my opinion. When the outcome is sufficiently dependent on competing reaction times, Initiative rolls will tell you who's quicker on the draw.

    D&D 5E (2014) Character sheet for dummies

I second the recommendation for the "MPMB's Fully-Automated Character Sheet" options from that link. The only real difference between the "colorful" and "printer-friendly" versions is the aesthetics, the printer-friendly looks more like the WotC sheet. Functionally they can both do the same...
