RPG Evolution: Looking Back at My Gaming Goals for 2022

If I were you, my next year "goal" would be to focus more on the game and being a better player/DM.

    D&D General Monster ENCyclopedia: Will-o'-wisp

"In Brazil wisps are the fiery eyes of a serpent that only eats the eyes of others. Many cultures view will-o’-wisps as some sort of spirit or phantom; one Columbian story, for example, claims a will-o’-wisp is a flaming, ghostly grandmother. It is no surprise that the translation of...

Worlds of Design: Golden Rules for RPGs

I disagree with rule number 2. I think that your reasoning works well in "Combat as war" systems, but it creates less than optimal gameplay patterns when you use "Combat as sport". The bottom line is to be transparent with your players on which type of combat you'll be running and which...

RPG Evolution: Thankful for My Players

Finding a group can take years... the funny thing is, you won't realize it until you've been playing with them for years and things run smoothly. Now that the year is coming to an end, it's a good time to reflect on such things. Interesting piece.

RPG Evolution: Oh No, Everyone's Here!

"Oh no! The party won a combat!" Uh!? What even is this "article"? The PCs winning bruises your ego? What?! Have you ever DMed a game before?

Use Your Old CCGs To Power Your RPGs

    D&D 5E (2014) Dungeon Delver's Guide: High Level Play

High level content is always welcome, but in the end it's just a patch. The sad truth is that 5e was not designed at all for high level play. I mean, it was barely designed at all, but it especially fails to address the issues that naturally come up when PCs start gaining a mountain of powerful...

RPG Evolution - True Tales from Stranger Things: The Satanic Panic Comes to School

Very interesting piece! There was no widespread Satanic Panic in my country, but it seems, appropriately, annoying as hell. The fact that the panic came from adults and, specially, people in positions of authority is a very keen observation.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game for Savage Worlds Adventure Edition: Advanced Player’s Guide, A Review

Cool, comprehensive review with interesting tidbits that doesn't run too long. I don't think I'll be changing systems any day soon, but progressive innovations in the industry are always positive. See? I complain but I also praise when praise is due!

Pathfinder: Book of the Dead Review

This was an awful review, pardon me saying it. The 2 longest of the mere 6 paragraphs are weird ramblings about a missed narrative opportunity. The mechanic portion of the review reads like it was written by a person that has only a passing familiarity with the system. There's no scoring nor...

D&D General Solasta: Crown of the Magister Offers A Hidden Fifth Edition Computer Gem

Solasta is fantastic. It has a lot of bugs, yes, but you can feel the awesome amount of love and craft that went into it's creation as you play it. Is it perfect? By no means. BUT! If you love D&D and can excuse the weird models and the occasional bug it's very much worth a play.
