Feudal Lords Playtest Guide - Final Update

Hmmn. Well, I understand the decision to attach a price tag, but I cannot seem to find the actual product on your RPGNow page. Did this eventually appear or is it still in the works? [edit] Never mind. I see now that this was eventually a combined release with Races and Classes of Cthonia. Well...

    WotC's R&C in Feudal Lords?

I haven't done much more than browse through the book in a shop and listen to what has been said about it on other message boards, but I'm pretty sure I could do without Dragonborn. The classes are harder to speak to, since I imagine Feudal Lords will want to implement its own features and...

    4th Edition First Impressions

Great. Very nice to be able to keep up in this way.

    New GSL Announcement

And so passes another age, let the age of iron begin! Well, this pretty much sucks. I admit that I have just about zero interest in D20, but I am interested in how this affects games like Labyrinth Lord, OSRIC and Castles & Crusades. Up until this announcement it was possible for third party...

    Outrageous!

Heh. The complete lack of an official source pretty much gives the game away...

Once you go C&C, you never go back

I quite like some of the Elmore stuff that has turned up recently for White Silver Publishing. However, much like Bradley's current work, they do seem very 'clean'. In general, I prefer them to what Wizards have been putting out (though there are exceptions, such as the Marilith that graces the...

Once you go C&C, you never go back

I like Basic Dungeons & Dragons and Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. My preferred rule set is somewhere inbetween these two. I find D20/3e too rules heavy for my taste and there are a number of cosmetic aspects that I don't think much of. I like the fact that it seems to have reinvigourated the...

What DO you like about 1E AD&D

Actually, only when one or the other of the participants is charging, but yeah, I know it doesn't apply after having closed to melee.

What DO you like about 1E AD&D

I really liked the idea that weapon length determined who struck first during the initial phase of melee combat.

    Thinking About OD&D

Thanks for updating your site, Philotomy. I always enjoy readin your thoughts on the subject.

    What DON'T you like about 1E AD&D?

So, are we now debating the merits of the system, rather than just stating what we do not like and why? Sounds like a recipe for an edition war. Another thing I don't like about 1e AD&D is the 2D8 starting Hit Dice of the Ranger Class. As a Sub Class of Fighter, I would have preferred them to...

    Player's Guide Update Part II

No problem, I hope that you had a good holiday. I am glad to hear that you will be continuing to support the Feudal Lords Campaign Setting for the forseeable future and am looking forward to seeing what you do with it. It's hard to be at the mercy of an edition change, but I think that on the...

What DO you like about 1E AD&D

I really like the simultaneous action within combat rounds. Much smoother than initiative counts, sequential actions, Ready Actions and Attacks of Opportunity.

    What DON'T you like about 1E AD&D?

Nah, you just have to see it in terms of probabilities. The Sub Systems themselves are not that big a problem, as it all comes down to a percentage chance of success. A Thief successfully Moving Silently is perfectly quiet and has an increased probability of Surprise or of successfully avoiding...

    What DON'T you like about 1E AD&D?

Yeah, really. A 'Monty Haul' is not a result of player greed. A Monty Haul campaign is one where Players are given rewards that are not commensurate with the risks involved. It is a campaign where rewards are unearned, not one where there was a lot of treasure available. It's the sort of...

    D&D is so METAL

Yeah, Metallica and Dungeons & Dragons were pretty much synonymous for me back in the days of 2e. As I recall, several adventures in the Treasure Maps Supplement bore the names of Metallica songs: Enter Sandman, Ride the Lightning and The Four Horseman, as I recall. In any case, 'Kill 'em all'...

    What DON'T you like about 1E AD&D?

Quite a lot of pretty minor problems, by the sounds of it. The biggest one is probably always going to be the organisation of the Core Books. As much fun as it is to explore them, it doesn't make for an easily accessible game. How probabilities are expressed and Class or Race restrictions are...

    Player's Guide Update Part II

Good to hear that this will soon be finished. What are your plans for the Feudal Lords Campaign Setting in the wake of Dungeons & Dragons 4e? I recall reading that you were developing an RPG 2D6 String System. Is that still in the works or are you planning to support Feudal Lords through other...

One Level Scale to Rule Them All?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this is definitely the way it will be done, I'm just saying if it's 25 Levels, then it's most likely because of a Saga type Skill System. It would make far more sense to have thirty Spell Levels for thirty levels. That said, giving Spell Casters access to ten...

One Level Scale to Rule Them All?

25 Spell Levels? Shadows of Saga: 1/2 Character Level + Trained (5) + Focused (5) That would work out to 25 Spell levels over 30 levels. It also suggests a Skill based Spell System. Just a thought.
