I think you misunderstood, the current community is rapidly growing away from that kind of attitude as people come in through Critical Role and similar actual play influences. But on OSR friendly forums like this, you see it a lot more.

If you have to do this, i'd give them Large sized space but use the MM "Centaur rule" which gives them regular sized weapons and reach. That'll keep it balanced.

I think niche protection and varied roles are important between players, but i mostly care that the PCs are balanced vs the Monsters, which i think is 5Es worst balance point "by the book". Yes, they're easy to change but i still think it's a little poor that i have to do so so often.

I generally find "DPR hunting" to be very annoying but i still need to be aware of it so that i can balance encounters properly. While 5e is generally decently balanced, it has some very poor "nova" balance points that you need to know how to work around.

None of the classes in 5e suck. There are some less than great subclasses, but all the the classes have at least 1 decent to good one.

I don't think there can reasonably be a "final" version of DnD until they give up on the idea of the unchanging books being timeless. If everything stayed the same except they opened themselves to digital books that can be dynamically updated being the primary product, they could finally settle...

At 26 i usually imagine myself on the older side compared to many of the 16-20 year olds who are being brought into the hobby with 5e. Seeing the poll results here helps me realize why i often disagree with or am baffled by many of the opinions i see posted here.
