But as far as the rules go, a song is a song, regardless to whether it is sung or not. You can still inspire courage with Perform (Mime) or Perform (Drums). It's poorly worded, I agree. But it doesn't mean that these types of perform aren't usable.

Huh...interesting query. I'd say yes, as long as you have Maximize Spell, and not Sudden Maximize. As long as you pay the increased costs for an increased spell level, I don't really see why not.
