Pathfinder 1E Paizo Copyright Issues at Obsidian Portal?

I agreed that the infringement is inconsequential initially, or by intent, but you have to see that those images could be proliferated by anyone who visits the DMs page, right? And that makes the usage potentially quite consequential. I simply don't think its accurate to conflate "open gaming"...

Pathfinder 1E Paizo Copyright Issues at Obsidian Portal?

Actually, unless I'm mistaken, the OGL actually limits the usage of some terms (Mind Flayers, for instance), so by using OGL material, Paizo was actually respecting copyright. Also, I'm sure the DM on Obsidian Portal meant no harm, but his intent is largely irrelevant. He was posting...

Pathfinder 1E Paizo Copyright Issues at Obsidian Portal?

Actually, no, Dannager. Not going to rise to your bait. Happy gaming to you.

Pathfinder 1E Paizo Copyright Issues at Obsidian Portal?

You recall several folks berating WotC that are in this thread posting supportive comments about Paizo? Because that would be weird. If that was happening.

Pathfinder 1E Paizo Copyright Issues at Obsidian Portal?

This is what I don't understand about comments like this: Hypocrisy would only be involved if the same poster posted outraged comments in regards to WotC protecting IP, and supportive comments in regards to Paizo doing the same thing. Or vice versa. So if you can find a quote from anyone in...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder outselling D&D

Actually, I hope the digital model introduced with 4e (highly errated rules system, intermittently successful digital support, treating a system like its expendable, etc.) will not be the model we see going forward. Rather, I hope the system matures and becomes stable, and the digital tools...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder outselling D&D

Anyone want to continue to claim that 4e fans aren't as evangelical as Pathfinder fans?

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder outselling D&D

Thats one way of looking at it. On the other hand, it seems to me that the secondary player became a major player by taking a huge risk and expanding their business in an effort to earn the audience that could've just kept playing 3.5. And earn it, they did.

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder outselling D&D

Not that I think there's any strategic partnership involved, I did play through the entire Runelords campaign using Maptool. And I currently use PC Gen to create and update my PF characters on my Mac. PCGen :: Overview

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder outselling D&D

In before the inevitable objections, counter-arguments, emotional kneejerk reactions and "yeah, buts" to say: Congratulations to the whole Paizo team! I played in an 18 month long PF campaign (Runelords) right after it was released, and I'm now having a blast in a weekly PF homebrew. The...

    Mearls: The core of D&D

I distinctly remember when I first started playing (over 20 years ago), the moment my characters acquired their first magical weapons were incredible, awe-inspiring moments. And tossing away (if I was carrying too much) or selling my normal weapon for a few coins, and sheathing that +1...

    Just how compatible is Essentials?

Yes! I was one of them. And, again, to be clear, I like the essentials classes, in part for that reason.

    Just how compatible is Essentials?

Absolutely. But unless you can find me a quote about psionics similar to this Bill Slavicsek quote about Essentials: "Starting in September and rolling out until the end of the year, the Dungeons & Dragons Essentials products consist of 10 key products that form the basis of the roleplaying...

    Just how compatible is Essentials?

Psionics can be ignored. I've been doing it for years. On the other hand, Essentials is the new system paradigm, which cannot be ignored as easily. As for your other examples, they don't hold water, as far as I'm concerned, because I'm not talking about mechanical and thematic differences...

    Just how compatible is Essentials?

First of all, try not to get so upset. We hear you, we just don't agree with you. Second, before Essentials, I could open the CB and create a 20th level character of my choosing, adding feats and magic items that were all 100% compatible with the class mechanics. Of course those options would...

    Just how compatible is Essentials?

I think it was stated very clearly upthread that classic 4e and E characters can be used together, because the incompatibilities and rough spots are specific, not systemic. However, this does not prove that the two systems are seamlessly compatible. The places where the two systems don't quite...

    Just how compatible is Essentials?

The problems might not necessarily show up in your game, because the places where 4e and 4e.E fail to mesh aren't so much systemic as specific, and depend upon combinations of campaign, characters, builds, feats, magic items and synergies between characters. So bully for you if both classic...

Seems to me that the Warpriest replaces the PHB Strength Cleric.

    Just how compatible is Essentials?

Great point! The problem for me is that I think the Red Box is such poor quality that I'd never recommend it to a new player. YMMV.
