    Epic Destinies and Earth Giants

Yeah, I was worried when they started going on about the death and eldritch giants. Those things were horrible and uninteresting. Frost and Fire are where its at.

    Epic Destinies and Earth Giants

Pretty much. D&D has always done classical myth better than anything else. Quests, face stabbing, stealing their stuff, affronting the gods... all that good stuff. Its always fallen down more often when you introduce the modern anachronisms in the current low in the fantasy genre. Exactly...

    Epic Destinies and Earth Giants

They can? They haven't been, in any of the monster previews we've seen. Damage is based directly on the strength score, and has been factored into attacks. Defenses are also reflective of the monsters stats, with a few unknown numbers as well.

    Epic Destinies and Earth Giants

It just seems unnecessary. The abilities are nice, and are logical conclusions to the power progression, but the [booming voice]DESTINY QUEST[/booming voice] and 'immortality' bits are more than a little campy. They don't really add anything to what should be an exciting concluding arc to the...

    Epic Destinies and Earth Giants

It does seem low. I understand why, but the paradigm shift is significant. Apparently your warrior-type characters are supposed to really wrestle giants and win. Since you can have a character with a 23 strength at 12th level and a 24 at 16th, you really can. In some ways its a nice change...

    Epic Destinies and Earth Giants

The problem is, they would actually have to go inside the text block and edit that to remove it. If it was the stat line, I could see how it could drop off, but that would be from the middle of the block. My money is on cut, but they forgot to alter the tactics. Its still a pretty...

    Epic Destinies and Earth Giants

It doesn't. It was either left out of this article, or cut from the MM at the last minute (without cutting the flavor text. Oops.

    Epic Destinies and Earth Giants

I was a bit underwhelmed by both articles. The epic destiny is... bland. A few compound buzzwords from the index of a book on the Golden Dawn, or something. I mean, really, Demispell and hyperplanar? Sigh. The abilities are just the progression I was expecting from the level progression...

Keep on the Shadowfell character sheet scans

Yes. Thank you for the insight. However, the third level power is just as weak, and its largely a waste on minions since most of the effect doesn't even appply. And if the DM is constantly swarming the party with hordes of minions, that might matter. However, if its just a few, it doesn't...

Where will poison use be included?

My guess is the DMG, its where they traditionally stuff optional things that they deem 'questionable' and not a default assumption.

Keep on the Shadowfell character sheet scans

Some very interesting stuff here. Between these and the D&D XP characters, a decent picture emerges. I'm still very unimpressed with the wizard. Low amounts of area damage just don't matter much, particularly with the way hit points have been adjusted. Dropping foes matters. Singing a bunch...

Warlord At-Will Powers level 1 via June Preview

It is, he does. But then, it seemed unequivocal just reading the power description, since the word 'melee' was position in several key places. But, anyway, I do think the power has its uses, but it (thankfully) isn't a now-brainer ability. It definitely strikes me as better than cleave is...

    Are Rituals Vaporware?

No, we just haven't seen a lot of non-combat situations. We have very little idea about how they're actually handling rules on everything else. @Stogoe- thats kind of awesome. I want to see someone do a research paper on the humours of the internet. Spite, nitpicking, deranged optimism...

    Are Rituals Vaporware?

The sad thing is, the 'fix everything' is completely a fan created thing. The devs haven't talked about them enough to have created any buzz beyond 'they exist, they can be learned, some spells have moved to ritual territory'. In particular, the 'any missing monster abilities are just...

    Ugly Half-Orc Backstory

Its not like Elan has any useful class features anyway. Inspiring tends to go badly for him, and his spells tend to be... limited.

Whining on the boards and rule zero

Ah, optimism. I hope you're right, if only for your own sanity's sake. Me, I'm going to disappear for a while when I get my books. I foresee a great deal of chaos.

Whining on the boards and rule zero

I don't know. It often comes across as contemptuously dismissing someone else's concerns because the rule/concept/whatever that doesn't bother the person replying. There is often a definite subtext of 'It doesn't bother me, so your concern is unjustified and you should just shut up'...

Warlord At-Will Powers level 1 via June Preview

I did. I got attacked by work and came back and finished the post later, so I missed a bit of the thread.

Warlord At-Will Powers level 1 via June Preview

None of these work (well except for the delay). Its a melee attack that spawns a basic melee attack on the same target.

Warlord At-Will Powers level 1 via June Preview

Its a melee attack though, so it seems to require a front-line warlord. And you both have to be able to make melee attacks against the target, which pretty much requires you to be next to the fighter (or whoever). And they just get a basic melee attack. Thats... not a very good trade. I can...
