Out of curiosity, though I can understand not being pleased by 4e changes, is calling it a wizard/rogue important in some way? I mean, really, does the label actually matter, and something so clunky in particular..?
On to the second point, which seems more important- 50/50 class split with...
If, and only if, you assume, with no reason to do so, that whatever god you want to contact requires celibacy of its priests or paladins. And if it does, and its CrazyMcNoWorshippers, God of Celibacy, why wouldn't he imposed that on any warlocks that contact him?
For me, the warlock strikes...
Right. But as he faces more and more powerful foes, those 8 level of wizard become more and more irrelevant. If you're a 3rd edition spellcaster and you stop being level appropriate, you might as well be someone's cohort.
A 4e wizard has less options than a 3e wizard full stop. And while...
Nope. Tira has the Action Surge feat (or whatever it is) getting a +3 on actions gained from an action point.
Its likely she's getting the power from a half-elf trait. Or its falling out of the ether. But she definitely is not getting it from a feat.
I'm not sure what character sheet errors...
If something grants you an extra basic attack or basic ranged attack, you can use MM but not RoF. Thats a pretty big advantage if you, for example, have a warlord in the party.
Hmm. Thats an interesting assumption. I suspect it isn't true. Assigning mathematical values to complex concepts never works out in practice. Particularly after rounds of playtesting, when something is tweaked multiple times to a final version.
Its good. You can actually start out as an <A> with <B> training, which 3e lacked entirely. It doesn't break the game at any point, you can both optimize around it (for all classes) and build interesting concepts around it.
I don't really think this is true. 3rd edition had no sense of balance or consistency. Class A would get something completely broken and class B would get something not even worth mentioning.
4e is missing some options right now, but they'll accumulate over time (I'm worried that it will be a...
Saga doesn't have any class features, though. Just crappy feats and crappy talent trees. The difference in what classes are plays a big role in the difference in multi-classing. Just picking up one of the starting feats and advancing normally in the class wouldn't work with the way D&D...
Actually, 1st and 2nd edition multiclass characters were stronger than single classed characters. They were only a level behind and could do *everything* a single classed character could do, beyond some armor/weapon use. The only thing that made them suck was the level caps in the upper...
You're reading it based on a singular example with no actual text? Um, OK. A little strange since we don't really know exactly why the half-elf has that power, but sure. But there isn't any reason that stands out as to why she couldn't have scorching burst rather than ray of frost.
Some comments-
the article itself isn't written that well. The write-up of the power-swap feats took a couple readings to understand exactly what they were saying. Any sentence thats starts with 'Effectively, pretend...' isn't going to a good place. Its a sign post for 'we know we are writing...
Thats partly why it seems so inappropriate for D&D, at least to me. Its a specific calling in a specific society. Its explicitly not someone who goes on adventures, its someone who stays in the community and performs his cultural role/duties.
Much like a druid isn't a shapeshifting...
Its been a mixed bag for me. Some of its really impressive, some of its pretty blah. The book covers definitely fall into the latter category. Its still a step up over most 3rd edition art, and a giant leap over the trash I think of when I think of 2nd edition, but I miss Elmore, Easley and...
Could we possibly split the homebrew/custom 4e material off into its own subforum? Its nice that people want to do it and all, but its getting to the point its occasionally burying official news, rumors, scoops and discussion about the game itself. Partly because some folks are fairly vague...
