Are we allowed to be excited for the system, but not D&D?

Pretty much how I feel about it- the fluff and some of the default concepts cause a lot of teeth-grinding, but I can rip those out. But the rules need to be good, and need to jettison a lot of garbage that accumulated in 3rd. It looks like it will, so I am cautiously 'hopetimistic'. But yeah...

    Excerpts: Angels

If you want fun Angels in fantasy(ish) fiction, try Simon R Green. The Nightside Series and 'Midnight Wine', particularly. They're fun- when they show up, everybody hides. They're the will of god made manifest and focused solely on their goal. No pity, mercy or even vague interest in...

    Excerpts: Angels

Ugh. I try to forget that 3rd edition propagated the idea of 'Dire Everything-under-the-sun'. In In its own way, its just as creepy as the bestiality crossbreeding fetish they developed. Well... maybe not *that* creepy.

AOE Spells - 1 attack roll vs. All Targets?

From playtesting it, this last point is certainly true.

    World-Building: The Shared D&D Experience

Off that list? ToEE and the Isle of Dread. Tomb of Horrors is a lesson in what not to do in a serious campaign (it can be amusing as a one off for laughs, but not with characters that someone is actually attached to). I'd definitely add the Slave Lord adventures to that list. As for decay...

    Excerpts: Angels

Ah. I just figured the wizard started with a male owl and a female bear. (because the opposite would be messy). ;)

    Tier-crossing quests

That strikes me as... quick. I guess it depends on what you mean by 'episode'

AOE Spells - 1 attack roll vs. All Targets?

Ouch. I could actually see it for players, since there are situations where there are just so many targets. But as the DM? Ouch, no. Rightly or wrongly the feel is 'I'm going to kill you all'. particularly with things like what keterys points out, that stun the entire party. Thats a short...

AOE Spells - 1 attack roll vs. All Targets?

Crits become extra-special explosions of gloriousness. Particularly with the devastating critical feat and similiar magic items, weapon traits and abilities. Its kind of a bad idea, unless you're specifically going for a 'and now there is a hole in the side of the mountain' flavor.

    Build types?

I think primal and fey were being used as synonyms at one point during early previews. I'm also not sure that Vestige survived to the final version. Fey is definitely in (preview character), Star is in (doomshaper) and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't chuck infernal out since that was the...

    Excerpts: Angels

Not necessarily. Its just the current defense of the Monster Stat blocks. Anything left out is automatically a ritual, regardless of the lack of basis for the claim.

    Excerpts: Angels

Eh. Not really. The gods could have collectively willed them into existence for the 'war against the primordials' trope, and then divvied up the survivors after the war. As generic as that would be, its better than the 'rent-an-angel' fluff. @Thelordwinter- thats one way to look at it. The...

    Excerpts: Angels

Hmm. Mixed feelings. On the one hand, I always kind of liked that evil gods had to rely on human servants. That seemed... appropriate. Yet I like the idea of direct divine servants. However, these angels are, for some reason, independently spawned mercenary forces, which is just frankly...

    How do Pallies Defend?

From the paragon path listed in gama thread, it looks like paladins will have some ability to mark multiple enemies, which seems potentially significant.

    Ranger Build

Except anything includes 'not doing it at all', which would be the best option from where I sit.

    Ranger Build

Me too. If they had to force a fighting style on the ranger, couldn't it have been something more appropriate like a spear? I would have been happier if the 'builds' didn't involve fighting styles at all. Though thinking about it, I would have been happier had they left 'Aragorn' out...

Multiclassing via feats; I want to pole all of you

Attacking X number of times per day at +100% damage (which often seems to be the difference between at will, encounter and daily, 1x, 2x and 3x damage, respectively) is more powerful than not doing that. Its certainly more powerful, than say, getting +1 to AC and a -1 to penalties if you're...

Multiclassing via feats; I want to pole all of you

That would be insanely powerful. The game seems to be balance around the fact that you start with roughly 5 powers and end up with around 20. Getting new ones with feats would drastically change the power scale, and put anyone who doesn't pick up powers this way almost irrelevant. Encounter...

    Bloat already?

Eh. The bloat is built into the production schedule. There will be races and classes and powers and paths in the FR book, more powers/builds/paths for classes in martial power, more races and classes in PHB II. And then the Eberron campaign setting, with yet more races and classes and... and...

    @ people complaining about fluff

I find it ironic since its been several months seen I've seen people talking about this. Most people who are disgusted with the new settings have just given up on them.
