I KNEW D&D was becoming more like WOW!!1!

Glad they made the april fools joke 3e, to avoid the inevitable 4e related freakouts.

    Dispel Magic

Hmm. Hmm. I'm not sure how I feel about this yet. On the one hand, getting rid of text bloat is good (more text often means more exploits, especially with WotC rules). On the other hand, is this even useful if its this situational? What spells does it compete with? Nice to see some...

D&D 4E Would you buy 4E if it were not open/had no licenses for 3rd party companies?

I wouldn't call it 'pro-WotC' feeling, necessarily. That isn't being measured by the poll. It would, for example, be equally valid to call it 'anti-3rd party' feeling, but I seriously doubt that is driving people either. Since I voted for closed, I'll offer up my view- I just don't care...

Ranged Strikers - more "aggro" mechanics?

Well, for the ranger, its targeted until you target someone else. You can change it. Both sample characters are fairly manueverable. The warlock, particularly, is rewarded if he moves around a lot. If adventure design actually stays away from the cramped 20x30 room, this will be fairly...

How many Powers in the PHB?

I expect that the 80 will get cut down somewhat with playtesting too. He mentions it isn't the final version of the druid, and I'd be shocked if all 80 survived.

    D&D 4E Can monsters crit in 4E?

Yes they can. It was mentioned in the 'Critical Hits' design article that they don't get a lot of the benefits from doing so (extra damage and so forth that pcs get). But that seems to have changed, as the human berserker can explicitly crit and gets the 'high damage' property from his...

To the Designers: May we please have the DDXP errata?

One or the other (or both) could be tied to one of the cleric's stats. Perhaps charisma. So if he actually had a decent charisma score he could Channel more than once an encounter. Or perhaps use more than one channeling ability during an encounter.

D&D 4E Is the OGL the reason for WOTC's secrecy about 4E?

I hate to do this, but your metaphor just doesn't work. These days, there are quite a few people that don't test drive cards, and there are hordes of people that preorder products (rpgs, books and computer games especially) before they ever know whats in it. For example, the gift box is #79 in...

WOTC undecided over OGL/GSL. Why you should care

Eh. All this suggests to me is that WotC is a little on the incompetent side. As for your original points, here's my take on them, if you care. Well, since the 'corporates' have had control over the creative direction of D&D since, well, at least since I started playing in the late 80s, I'm...

D&D 4E 4e Promotion can you help Andy Collins to get in touch with Stephen Colbert

Really. Have your PR people talk to his PR people. Thats their point. That said, Colbert's show is always a little iffy on how he handles things. There is always the chance that the exposure he gives you isn't the kind of exposure he wants. Besides, didn't he do a bit on 'retiring the dice'...

What Kind of Druids Do You Like?

I'd like to see a historical druid, i.e. part of a community concerned with religion, justice, law and the cultural tradition. Sadly, D&D has always dealt with some weird hodge-podge, anachronistic nature priest instead, and slapped 'druid' on it. So, uh, none of the above.

    D&D 4E WotC Greg: 4E Campaign Report Part 2

That doesn't sound like 3e to me at all. It typically went more like- Absurdly high level monster rampages through meatshields Wizard: SoD! DM: saves Cleric: SoD! DM: saves rampages some more SoD #3! saves SoD #4! Fails! Encounter ends... But I'm not sure I like what 4e is producing either...

How many Powers in the PHB?

I don't think there is even a chance of that. 600-700, tops, and that would surprise me. 75-80/class is pushing it for this book. Particularly with the magic items and everything else in here, the page count just can't handle much more.

    Saves End w No Action?

Are you trying to drive me away from 4e? Because bad action movies with excessive explosions does exactly that.

Displacement - a bit wussy eh? Mirror image too...

I think a better, but similar defensive power would be this (which is admittedly a little rough, but this is off the top of my head): Stay the Hand encounter Int vs Will immediate action when an opponent attacks you or an ally. (and whatever else I'm forgetting off the top of my head) You mess...

Displacement - a bit wussy eh? Mirror image too...

But... you can get a reroll at level 1 or level 16. If they're equally awesome, something is seriously wrong. Especially since the 1st level power is apparently better. @ Dausuul- actually, 4e seems to scale more than 3e did. 3e spells usually didn't scale. Level 1 spells were largely...

Fireballs, Force Orbs, and Ranged Attacks

A pseudo-AoE. Say you have creatures arranged like this XXX X_X XXX X= creature _=empty space with force orb as written, you can't get all of them- 3 can't be hit With the way you're abusing it, you can. Makes a distinct difference in the power of the 'target: creature or object' spells with...

Displacement - a bit wussy eh? Mirror image too...

This is true. But neither of those powers involve someone else *taking an actual action*. The actual wizard character is actually doing something, right *after* the attack, using up his one immediate action for the round. The elf and halfling abilities are in a real way, part of the attack...

Displacement - a bit wussy eh? Mirror image too...

The flavor of displacement bothers me more than anything else. It isn't that your buddy was actually displaced, its that you made the attack miss in some way that doesn't make sense. Retroactivity is weird, unless some sort of time magic is involved... which this clearly isn't.

    D&D 4E 4e requires a battlemat, and I'm okay with it

Thats my thought. A few very minor tweaks and some corner-case combats (how often is it 12+ on 6? The reduced flanking doesn't matter than much), and a lot of the stupid goes away.
