D&D 5E (2014) Dungeon Masters Guild: DM's Kit: On the Trail of Tyranny

My first offering for the Dungeon Masters Guild is up. It's filled with gaming helps, handouts for players, side quest prompts and printable chit cards for running an alpine ski chase. It is filled with things to help keep DMs organized as they run Hoard of the Dragon Queen and The Rise of Tiamat.

    Pathfinder 1E Paizo Annoucement!

It'll be $49.95 for the entire game. One book, one game. Last I saw, Wotc's three book 4E came in around $104 -- as a comparison.

    Pathfinder 1E Paizo Annoucement!

It's not the rules, it's the games There seems to be a very rules set mentality about the decision making, as if everything about Paizo's move is rules focused. But I would like to point out that the most interesting aspect of their announcement is the company's commitment to organized play...

    The New Core Pantheon

That's a solid list for any campaign, whether D&D adopts something similiar or not.

History Channel's "Cities of the Underworld" as inspiration

This show is A-MAZING! There have been many good ones, but the one on Edinburgh, Scotland, and how its underworld was created (they basically buried the poor sections of town -- tough luck them) after building a series of support bridges across the town, I think is the best episode.

Complete Scoundrel gives alignments for Batman, James Bond, Riddick, and more...

Yeah, that was exactly my first thought when I read that. Caprica Six on the other hand ... ;)

Gnomes vs. Halflings - Demihuman genocide!

Gnomes invented the internet --- they gotta stay. Pack the rest of those kender-like halflings back to Krynn where they belong.

Do you DM sitting or standing?

Generally, I stand. But when the gaming situation is less formal (say the living room, rather than the game room at the game store), then I'll sit at the same level as the players.

What if... D&D had been designed BEFORE The Lord of the Rings!

I think D&D would look a lot more like the core of what is now the Wilderlands/Judges Guild product. They clearly have a pulp-fiction feel, and they tried to take D&D down that road. In the absence of Tolkien, that seems likely.

    Opinions on 'd20 Past'

I liked it because ... d20 Past gets panned a lot for what it is not, which is unfortunate. I think the book is misnamed, creating a sense of false expectations. Some also complain that the book is nothing more than a reprinting of a lot of Polyhedron material prior to the official release of...

Dragon 337: Will the real Zuggtmoy please stand up?

My guess it's to sell 3.5 PHB to those of us holdouts still having fun playing games with our dogeared, spine-busted 3.0s.

    Sohei in play?

Sohei is my favorite OA class. They are a monk-paladin cross. They I have no idea how it will run in a Gestalt game. I think the lawfulness is key to the archetype, but in practice, much less a straitjacket than a western paladin. If the PC thinks "singled-minded," they are on the right track.

Introducing fantasy RPGs to religious players

I agreee. A science fiction based rpg is a good place to start, whether its generic d20 future or Star Wars. If you want a fantasy world without religion, try Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time rpg. There is no organized religion, no clerics, just the stark concepts of Darkness and Light. Generally...

Elves - Love em or Hate em?

Elves hate em But not as much as I despise the idea of half-elf, or half-anything, for that matter. Half-lings might be an exception, but I may even have misgivings about them. The thing is ... drow make such great villains. So some elves are OK, I guess. The evil ones. Muhahahahahaha.
