    Black Company fans!

Well... pretty much what Endur said. You been picking my brain or something? :) The first four BC novels are the best. (Maybe the first Book of the South came before The Silver Spike, but I'm counting it as the fourth.) And The Tower of Fear is awesome. He also has written some really good...

    Social "combat"system

Clark's example is a better one for at least Dyn&Dem's system. You aren't attempting to convince your opponent, but to counter their arguments and perhaps make them look bad. You're probably trying to convince others in the process. In a ruling council, there are probably a few councillors...

Rangers: the use of animal companions in-game?

There's nothing even quasi-magical about animal companions in 3.5 :D There is no empathic bond, and there is no requirement to cast Animal Friendship or whatever it was called in 3.0. Even if you do have Speak with Animals, to use it reliably you'd have to prepare it every day, which would be...

    Social "combat"system

I was going to say you've pretty much hit on the same idea as the Dynasties & Demagogues debate system mentioned by arcady. I think it's pretty cool although I haven't used it due to a lack of GMing. :) The "social hit points" (Political Points in Dyn&Dem) are basically your staying power in...

Rangers: the use of animal companions in-game?

Hm, yes, that'd usually work. What if you're playing a spell-less ranger?

    Mega Sale - False Advertising?

Hey, yeah, that makes sense. I think I need a cup of coffee...

    Mega Sale - False Advertising?

Wow, what a sweet sale! Unfortunately I think I already have the products that I want. I have copies of In the Saddle, Crimson Contracts, and The Elements of Magic, and I bought a print copy of Necromancer's Legacy aka the Librum. These are all great products, I must say. Highly recommended...

Rangers: the use of animal companions in-game?

So, what can an eagle or hawk scout actually do? My ranger just trained a hawk - not a companion, as he hasn't reached level 4 yet. But rangers don't actually get the ability to see out of their pets' eyes, and animals aren't that smart. You could train one to cry when it spots a large...

Advanced D20 by Sword & Sorcery

I hereby pronounce 2004 the Year of Arthurian d20! Let's see: the R&R Excalibur book, Legends of Excalibur: Arthurian Adventures, Love and War. The Medieval book from Green Ronin might also be applicable. Did I miss anything?

Rangers: the use of animal companions in-game?

I thought I'd specifically put this question in the context of rangers since druid animal companions are a lot more powerful. "In most cases, the animal companion functions as a mount, sentry, scout, or hunting animal, rather than as a protector." When playing a ranger with an animal...

    Top Twenty Print Products

Ok, let's you and me write reviews of C&P, and that will at least bring the number of reviews up to three... :) The few d20 reviews I've submitted here I have also submitted to rpg.net. I don't believe there's anything which forbids this practice. (Which, if it means the review gets...

    Lynx?

Ok now I'm confused as to whether Shade and Grazzt meant giant or non-giant lynxes. :) I'm definitely looking for one which isn't giant, dire, legendary, or otherwise different. Maybe I'll try to stat one up myself and post it in Homebrews.

    Lynx?

Does anyone know of stats for a lynx or other wild cat, between the size of a housecat and a leopard? Or care to make something up?

    Top Twenty Print Products

The need for 5 reviews is solid - it prevents a few people from stacking the list or anything - but it would be interesting to see what the top 20 looked like based on, say, 3 reviews. Atlas' Dynasties & Demagogues has a 4.75 average on 4 reviews, for instance.

TV Series on DVD - favorites?

The only TV series set I have is Farscape Season 1, and yes, it was expensive... but the show's so darn good! Now if I could just afford Season 2... :)

    Hobbit Slave Auction

Well this isn't much, but I watched the slave auction scene in Captain Blood (set in 17th century Jamaica) not that long ago. Seemingly reasonable standard auction practice - the slaves are sold off one at a time, the auctioneer talking up the good qualities of the slave in question to...

What shows are your "must sees"?

Well, I'm glad someone else mentioned some animated shows. My must-watch shows are sadly reduced to: Angel Jackie Chan Adventures If I got A&E, I'd watch Hornblower :(

    I die. a lot.

Wow. And you didn't kill the DM or swear never to game with him again? That's what I'd do. :) I don't have too many experiences like this, but in the low-level game I'm in now, we were amazed when the fighter didn't get dropped in a fight last week. :D

Which DVD's would I need for a Pulp Action/Adventure marathon?

Friends of mine have mentioned this I think... but I was under the impression that it's a swashbuckler with swords and so forth? Is it set in the 19th century or earlier?

Which DVD's would I need for a Pulp Action/Adventure marathon?

No, no, it doesn't. I'm trying to think of parallels to the Flash Gordon style of science fiction. Was there an episode (or more than one?) of the original Star Trek in which Kirk was forced to fight beasts in an arena for the amusement of the local populace, with primitive weapons? That...
